MOM

The word “mom” brings with it a special kind of fondness for someone has known me and loved me since before I was born. In my earliest memories she has more of a caregiver, provider image. This changed to someone who cared about who I would become as a person. It wasn’t until I got older that I came to realize how much I needed her and during this time we became special friends.
I don’t quite know when the next stage began. When does the person who takes the wheel change? When does the daughter become the mother? It seems to me that another stage has crept up on me and slowly the time is coming where my Mom needs me. I want to fight this because I don’t want to be the one that’s needed. It seems to me that she wants to fight it just as much. I pray that I will have the grace to allow her the privilege to be needed, but also to rise up to the challenge of being there for her as we change roles.

There is a season for everything.
A time to hold your baby close
A time to hold her hand
A time to keep
And a time to let go.

There is a time to take
A time to laugh
A time to cry
A time to learn
And a time to give.

There is a time to speak
A time to remember
A time to ponder
A time to cherish
Before there is no time.

Today my sister and I are taking our mom shopping and out for lunch for her birthday. I hope she feels as special as she is; the one who I can call on anytime to pray, to laugh or to cry with me. The one who knows me so well, but always believes the best of me. I thank God for a mother who has never grown tired of serving her family and to whom I owe more than I can ever repay.

Oh Anneliese. You have such inner beauty and strength...I know that God will grant you further grace as you enter this stage of your relationship with your mom. How wonderful to go shopping with her and lunch with you and your sister will have made her feel special indeed. What a lucky mom to have wonderful daughters.

A great tribute to your Mom Anneliese. I went through that time of Mom needing me but through it all I realized I still needed her just as much. It was a privilege to serve her! I miss her..

What a lovely tribute to your mom. Yes our roles change as we age and it's not easy to see someone we love getting older. Enjoy your mom while you have her - I miss mine so much - I wish I'd had more time to serve and bless her as she served and blessed me. However through our tears we acknowledge that God knows best and we praise Him for taking her home so painlessly.
Happy birthday to your Mom.

You do have a lovely Mom Anneliese. I haven't seen her in a number of years, but I remember that smile she has on the photo you posted. The road that takes a turn during this time you face can be sweet. As one begins to grow weary in body, the other is so able to help. What a gift our aging parents receive when we give them back some of the 'fruit of their labor' in our lives as we serve them. Your Mom will continue to be a strentgh in new ways in your life. Your relationship will take on some new dimention. It's natural for us to fight this process, and yet as we ease into it we begin to see that these are precious years. I'm sure she enjoyed her birthday out with you girls. May the Lord's goodness continue to rest on her this next year. Kathy

Your Mom looks beautiful on the outside, and I'm sure is also beautiful on the inside. I echo exactly what was said by Betty and Bev. Take time to enjoy her while you can and you will always have those memories. Our mother died 3 years ago on New Years eve, and we miss her so. A mother is so special! Dairymary
