It's been my goal to work on an
elementary school days photo album for each of my kids.
The old sticky photo albums with some chronological, some random and some missing photos (because they were removed or possibly on a slide tray) just do not make for interesting keepsakes.
In considering how I could combine everyday life and special occasions,
along with some saved school work . . .
I came across these little ring binder scrapbook/journals at
Michaels Craft Store
and finally got inspired to start.
The fun thing about these little binders are the colorful pages that you can interchange or move around to suit the page you are working on. There are
extras you can add in, such as clear photo pages and pages with pockets etc. These are great if you want to do a scrapbook for a girl.
I'll have to keep my eyes open for a more masculine looking idea in the future.
I started with the first day of Kindergarten, adding some original artwork.
This is the girl who has always loved to draw.
Oh, and here you see the clear photo pages that you can insert.
For these pages the photos had to be cropped to fit or ordered in 3" x 5" size.
In years gone by, our elementary school down the road went from Kindergarten to Grade seven. . . .
so I collected all of the individual and class photos from those years
and used them as intro pages to each year. I ended up dividing the years between two books.
I went through early school journals and took out pages (or scanned them) to add to the scrapbook.
So fun to see it from her perspective!
This Grade three teacher loved giving awards to the kids! I chose a few to add to the binder.
Other pages included summer camping trips with cousins . . .
birthday celebrations . . .
Christmas celebrations . . .
Trips . . . I found a journal page that correlated with the photos of a trip to Disneyland,
scanned it, and printed it in a wallet size to fit the page.
Recitals were part of life . . .
as were cycling trips with other families.
I have to say the pages lent themselves so easily to scrap booking different events.
Sometimes I added a plain page and just used the hole punch.
This page reflects a couple of Grade 6 memories, including her artwork..
These are ideas . . .
which can be as varied as the child whose album it is.
