One day I spent the better part of nine hours in the kitchen.
Okay . . . maybe that is nothing new . . .
but this time the mess I made was for another reason.

Some people move around enough that they never need to worry about spring clean up,
But when you stay put, the time comes when you have to buckle down
and just do it.

The only cleaning agent I needed was baking soda. I sprinkled it on any black
spots from utensils or pots being dragged. Using some wet paper towel,
the black marks came off perfectly.
I love the look of a clean cutlery drawer. The thing that remains to be seen is how long
I'll be putting everything back just so.
Top cupboards were looking sad.
Actually I think they kind of brought some joy to those
who noticed.
But no more!
I decided the extra cookbooks I've been given lately were more important than
a box of things I had forgotten about and a pile of plastic bags . . .
(for the "just in case a dirty diaper needs taking care of)
You know.
And when all was said and done . . . I bought some flowers
and pretty well wanted to declare my kitchen a no work zone.
The floor got mopped and the feeling was . . .
oh so good!
I can't quite decide what is better . . .
the clean feeling
or the fact that I don't have to think about this for a few years now.

I have been doing this as time (and energy) allows this summer. We have been in this house for 11 years and don't plan on moving for a long time. So I kind of had that realization this summer too, it was time to do some serious spring cleaning. Such a good feeling when it's done!
Purging and organizing...two of my most favourite things!
that's a huge job - one I avoid like the plague! good for you ~ and you definitely deserve the flowers. .. . you're such an encouragement to met!
It is such a good feeling to be organized and clean. Love it. I'm going to try the baking soda on some of my cutlery...
I've just spent some time preparing a post for next week on how nice it is to have an organized kitchen. It makes such a difference to how you feel about cooking and cleaning up. Thanks too for sharing the baking soda tip!
Okay, I need to use this post as an inspiration! Spring cleaning in my kitchen is long overdue. I hope I can get started soon. I also need to weed some things that I no longer use. Thanks for the post and the baking soda trick.

I did that this summer too! We also had to eat up (because I'm so frugal) all the odds and ends I found (such as leftover camping food etc).
Fun post. I do that same thing every few years....or more:) Funny the things we forget we have kept just in case. I like that you celebrated with flowers....that's a pretty final touch:)
This needs to be done desperately in my kitchen too. Great post and inspiration to do this!!!
Well done!
When we used to move with the military every two years I always had a spotless, well-organised kitchen. These days, not so much!
We've moved enough that I don't have a lot of extra stuff around, but the cupboards still need a regular cleaning out - which is on my list of things to do this summer. And bits like twist tags and crumbs never cease to filter into the drawers. You must be feeling very good about your kitchen these days! Great inspiration.
I want to get that done yet this summer too....except I need to do my whole house again. I'm not sure if a small space needs it done more often or if my house would need it no matter if I had a basement for extra storage or not. I suspect I'd just be moving my mess around. Thanks for the incentive of seeing your nice neat cabinets.
I can imagine your sense of accomplishment...good for you!!
