Mary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.
Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.
The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb.
Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great I am.
This song, written by Mark Lowry, is one of my favorite (what I would call) Advent Season songs, and has been ringing in my head these last few days. It reminds me of the expectancy that we feel in this season, just as a mother has expectations when she’s carrying her child.
I wonder what Mary’s expectations were? In Luke chapter 2 there are two instances where it says that “Mary treasured up all these things in her heart.” I simply cannot fathom what she must have felt. If anyone would have questions, it should have been Mary…but recorded is only one, “How can this be?” and in faith she accepted what the Lord had for her when the angel said, “for nothing is impossible with God.”
During this season of preparations I don’t what to forget how amazing this story is. To think that the Lord of all creation would chose to become a baby, so that He could live among us, identify with us, and show us the way to the Father by His life, death and resurrection. The best gift we can receive is when we humbly open our hearts to Him in faith as well.

I too love that song. It sounds like it is your inspiration song for advent, well for today anyway.
I so often think of Mary now and all God's promises to her, we know the end of her story, but when she was living it, what trust she had to have. It is a good reminder for me.
It's one of my favourite songs, too!
The words get to me every time I hear it.
Such an amazing story of faith and acceptance!
Thanks Anneliese!
I will never forget that song. . .after singing it in the choir many many times in the singing Christmas tree. . .it still gives me goosebumps and I recall tearing up as I sang, at the wonder of how God arranged for this young girl to be the mother of Christ Jesus.
Beautiful picture and thank you for the reminder of this song.
Thanks Lisa, this too is one of my favorite songs. When Christopher was born we did not know what the future had in store for him and us. When I sing this song I always think of him and also how Mary must of felt just wondering about Jesus's future the little son she just gave birth to.

Thanks for the insights.
We listened to that song today too...and loved it!! We were listening to Christmas music as we wrapped gifts and I prepared Dave's birthday meal and 'Schwarzwalder' Cake...so fun to spend his special day with our Texas kids. Missing you....and loving reading your blog!
A beautiful song! Mothers and sons..that's something we can identify with. But we can only imagine what Mary must have experienced.
I just heard that song for the first time this week when a sweet 'poster' sent the music to me via email. Beautiful words. Thanks for printing it out.
