I’ve been working on my 2008 scrapbook album. Last night I was working on the the “Good Bye” page, the dreaded day when we packed a family load of suitcases onto the truck and headed for the airport.
reminded me of another photo taken about 30 years earlier
and I just had to check it out.
Yes … the woman has matured, but the baby looks very much the same. Makes me feel somewhat connected . . . like I kind of “know” her. By what my daughter tells me about her, she is so much like the baby I raised. Blue eyes that slit into the brightest smiles, content, easy going, and the cutest rolls on her arms and legs. But when I step off that plane and reach my arms out to her . . . will she feel that familiar safety in me? Will she just “know” that I’m her Grammy?
Will she be blowing out her first candle and taking her first steps, all the while sensing my pride and joy in her? The way that only a Grammy can feel because she’s seeing it all for the second time.

Awweee...what a cute cute cute girl my niece Makenna is. I am crying after reading this because my heart too hurts with the fact that she doesn't know me...and that my sister doesn't know my Landon. Twin-cousins...so far apart, yet so close in our hearts.
Anneliese, both of those pictures are incredibly precious. I am always amazed at how God gives young children the sense of who is important in thier life. Of course this wee one will know you are her grammy . ..I wish I was there to document it for you. . .but I'm certain that someone will do that for all of us. . here at home.
I agree with Lovella...God does somehow give young children a sense of who matters in their lives. She'll somehow know you, Anneliese! Beautiful pictures...both of them. And the babies look very much the same.
Ok, I'm crying now ...
We can't wait for your visit! And I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised that Makenna knows you ... just as Paeton does (even though he moved here when he was only 12 weeks old as well).
Hearts filled with emotions as I read this incredible post of a mother's heart. I love hearing you share your heart.
Oh what similarity in the babies...mother to daughter....and gosh...you haven't aged a bit! :) Have a wonderful time....
I believe she WILL know you! Oh, the anticipation!!
Vange
Wow!! Can't believe how much alike Julene and Makenna look. And I would agree with these other wise women...I am sure she will know you even if it takes a few hours for her to warm up to you. You are and always will be her Grammy and between Julene, Tehya AND Paeton telling her all about you she won't think you are a stranger.
Ohh... how precious to have those photos.. so similar...one as a mother , then as grandmother .. How time passes-
I can't imagine the heartache of letting your granddaughter go.... I'm soo sorry, Anneliese - I'm sure when she sees you again she will remember - she will feel your love!!
