On our way to the 'wood' store Tehya pointed out a tree with her favorite fruit.

Have you ever tried a rambutan?
I will keep my eyes open for it here.

Julene added some to her fruit purchase while we were there.

The peel looks prickly, but it's kind of rubbery, soft.
You crack it open.

Inside is a large, juicy fruit that tastes like a grape.
Unlike a grape, though, it has a large pit.
I can see why it's Tehya's favorite fruit.
Of all the new fruit I tried, it was my favorite too.

Oh it looks tasty. What a neat way to tour the village on the way to the wood store.
You took wonderful pictures Anneliese. I couldn't help but smile knowing that the pictures you were taking this time were different in part because of all of us at home. Thank you for remembering to show us too.
what a wonderful experience to be able to taste new fruits and flavors, smell new smells, see and experience so much....what a blessing. i love all the pictures and tracel alongside of you in the virtual sense....;-)
They look a little bit like lychee, which I buy here at the store and they too taste like grapes.
What fun to try all these new foods (fruits) with your own personal tour guide. I was also thinking that rambutan looked much like a lychee nut...and apparently they are related.
You've brought back many memories from my trip years ago...
Yes, we ate those...I loved them.
Looks good!! Kind of reminds me of a lychee as well! :) I love new fruit in different countries!
One of the best parts of travelling is experiencing the new foods and fruits seldom disappoint us. I too thought of a lychee. I'm sure they are similar. Thanks for the ongoing travel documentary. I love it.
looks delicious! Thanks for your posts, I love reading them.`
So interesting! and how fun to share these new experiences with the grandkiddies, as well as have them "teach" you about their life. Great pictures...we have very much enjoyed your posts on your travels.
Yes, it looks like a Lychee nut. We had them in our backyard in one of our homes and they were delicious.
Oh Yum...and great shots. Everyone has said it but truly, those are terrific shots you took there Anneliese.
A rambutan is something I have never heard of - but if it tastes like a grape it would be sure to go on my favorite fruitlist!
Wow! how much there is to explore in places most of us have never been!
I love how in the blogging world we can learn so much from someone's personal experience!
Your little Tehya is adorable! and looks so at home in 'her' world!
Mom, isn't it neat how the simple life here can look so exotic when on the internet :-) Thank you for your special Indonesia posts. What beautiful memories we share.
It has been a joy to scroll through all your Indonesian pictures; and when I came upon the Rambutan post, it brought back a flood of memories. They are such an unusual fruit that I still remember eating them as a MK, 25 yrs ago. I never tire looking at the beautiful scenery that Jakarta and islands have to offer and you manage to capture it wonderfully. Thank you.
