Passing on the Torch

As I watch my girls raise their children now I remember the distinct difference of emotions I felt, raising a son after two daughters. I felt an attachment that I knew I would someday hand over to another special woman and I didn’t want to waste any time in lavishing my love on him while I could.
Yesterday I had a special breakfast with this beautiful young woman. . . a woman worth far more than rubies. .. one who has full confidence in her husband and brings that special sparkle to his eyes.
It’s all good. For now I am cherishing the connection we can have, for you see, she is now carrying the child of the child I once carried. She will mother and care for a little boy or girl that will make my son a daddy. She is my daughter by love.

You are blessed. I know that this girl that carries your grandchild is a special girl.

What joy to be able to let a son go when you know he is loved, respected and encouraged just like you had always prayed for.

As the mother of a son, reading this gave me the biggest chills. How cool! I love the way you stated it and I look forward to this time in my own life, until then I pray for the woman my son chooses to marry. Thanks for continuing to bless us through your blog words.
I hope your hubby is having a speedy recovery from surgery as well. Love and hugs!

Anneliese, I've been telling my husband about you, my new online friend. :-) After I read this post, I called him over to read it b/c it is a classic example of how you so expertly choose your words and then share them with us. Being the mom of 2 sons that I am, this post made me teary eyed thinking about my own sons' future. How gratifying for you that you have a wonderful DIL and son and now a new grandbaby on the way!!! Congratulations.
