Sometimes, when I’m walking . . . with my arms dangling down . . . I remember my dad. He had very long arms that looked even more pronounced when he walked.
I wonder if I walk like him.
He used to take pride in the fact that he could take all three grandkids in his arms at once. He had a big lap too.
Today, 4 years ago, Dad went home to heaven. February 28th was the night that we stood at Dad’s bedside for the last time. It was getting closer to midnight and I thought how, if it had been leap year, Dad would have chosen that day to go, because numbers were always a cool game for him.
One year later, on Leap Year day, Makenna was born.
Makenna, Great- Opa would have told you what a special Birthday you have! He would have called you Queen Kenna . . . or Mykenna, or something like that. He would have loved to tease you . . . and I can just imagine the smiles you would have had for him.
Today . . . and tomorrow . . . since we do not really know which day to celebrate this year . . . we wish you a very special day! We love you all the way across the ocean and back . . . many times over!
Love, Papa and Grammy.

Happy Birthday Kenna, and how fortunate to have a redeemed day. I know once you get older...you will love it...like when you are really 60, you will be 15.
And you will feel young as ever.
Four year already Anneliese...I did not really know you..and I feel so blessed today to see these photos and feel a part of your life.
Oh how very precious and what great insight to call it a day redeemed. Happy birthday to sweet Makenna. My sister Vera was born on leap year, too, 63 years ago. We always celebrate on the 28th...
What a special birthday for your sweet Kenna. A day redeemed...for sure!
Hugs to you today, Anneliese...as you remember your dad.
"A time to be born and a time to die"..... This post illustrates your blog name perfectly. Have a joyful day, celebrating the lives of these two precious family members.
A sweet memory of your dad....so nice that you are passing on those memories to your grands. Happy Birthday to your little princes. .....I'd say she should always have cake two days in a row!
I enjoyed your post today, Annaliese. I have been enjoying this kind of thoughts, myself, as I see the generations marching on in my own family, and the joys of fresh young life coming along! Isn't life a mystery sometimes!
That little Makenna sure has beautiful, clear eyes! Happy Birthday to her!
Aww ..such a special girl born on a very special day!. May her life be blessed as her sweet smile blesses others.
Sweet post! It is obvious that you loved your dad very much. Wasn't God good to redeem the day for you. We have a friend who usually celebrates her leap year birthday on Mar 1 because she says it is the day after Feb 28 on the non-leap year years!
What a poignant post! Happy Birthday to your Kenna. Lovely memories of your dad. God bless!
What a wonderful tribute! Happy Birthday Kenna. How wonderful for you!!
Happy Birthday Sweet Kenna!
What a sweet post. It sounds like you had a sweet dad, and now you are blessed with sweet grandbabies. We are not quite in the grandbaby years yet but are looking forward to it down the road, Lord willing :) Nice to meet you -- this is my first time stopping by.
It seems that often when a beloved family member goes off to heaven; God gives us a new little one to love and care for. Blessings to Little Makenna on her birthday!
How blessed you are to have such wonderful sad and happy memories all at the same time. Blessed to know your dad is with Jesus. Happy Birthday to Kenna, I love your smiles!
Hugs to you Anneliese from me, your sister-in-love. Mary
What a sweet post. I know the pain of loss. Thank you for sharing. Your daughter is adorable.
Anneliese maybe they have their birthdays at the New Year, as some Asian countries do. Everyone goes up one year then. So you are 50 in December 2010 and then, at the New Year, you are 51. :(
I don't know if I had realized the connection, how sweet. From what I know of Opa, he definitely would have liked that. Happy birthday Makenna, I can't believe how big you are getting!
Such precious memories - and precious little girl!
Thank you, "my Grammy"! I know that you love me very much. I remind my Mom of that. Tomorrow we're going grocery shopping and I'd like very much to stop at your house after for lunch ... but you live "far, far away". Soon you can come here ... and we will celebrate my birthday together! I love you so much, Grammy! I don't mind having a second cake!
P.S. Sorry, but my Mom just read this blog now ... our internet was down on my birthday.
