The Natural Look

Recently an article in Canadian Living, called  She's a Natural caught my attention.  I read with a smile about the number of products it takes to get that natural look. So ... I wonder what you'd call that "first thing in the morning" look?  What is natural?  According to the article, depending on your skin type, you need about eight or nine products to create a flawless "no-makeup" look.

The products include moisturizer - possibly tinted - or a sheer liquid foundation, translucent powder and a hint of blush, a neutral eye shadow, a shadow eye pencil, mascara and lip balm and/or gloss.

I looked through the list and thought about what someone told me a very long time ago in response to  my grandmother's comment that people who wear make-up won't go to heaven. I realize that, today, that would be  strong statement to make... but aside from that . . . the advice given to me was that she does not have to know you are wearing makeup.

Funny . . . how this article reminded me of that. It is kind of humorous that I wear seven or eight products for the right look.  Not so my grandmother does not know . . . but to feel . . . what would you call it . . . natural?

Hahaha! Your story reminds me of my Ukrainian grandmother who took me behind the chicken coop on the pretext of seeing chicks, and in a syrupy sweet voice and totally scarey smile saying "Does your mother wear lipstick?"

Even the first time this happened when I was about six I knew I had to say no. I knew it was wrong to lie, but I had to save my mother. I had no idea what it was about, but there was no mistaking her intent.

She was from the same area of Ukraine as some of the MGCC's foremothers.

I war lipstick. But I buy the lipstick and moisturizer with no carcinogenic chemicals. From lists here: http://www.safecosmetics.org/article.php?list=type&type=33

Good post. I guess "natural" is just a matter of semantics now! At my age, I'm not willing to take the time to use 8 or 9 products to achieve a natural look... haha

Oh I enjoy S's comment so much. I would have been wise to go the natural look the first time I attempted to apply a coat of makeup at my friends house before evening service. My mom sitting several benches away. .noted my new look and on exiting the church she suggested my face be washed with the freshly fallen snow. I was definately too young!

I heard recently on a popular show that little girls are wanting to also enjoy the natural look younger and younger and the lady suggested that all makeup should be for play only. .and never be seen out of their home. I thought this made sense.

Love this one!! Of course, I really don't wear makeup often, but I have girls and they love to. In our family, if I can see your makeup, you are wearing too much!!

The natural look is the best...and as the years go by, it just takes a few more products to achieve that look. Smile!

My grandma and yours held the same beliefs! My grandma also believed that only German would be spoken in heaven.

This post came to mind last night as I watched a group of 5th graders taking the stage to receive their promotion certificates. One girl had a pile of makeup on, it was hideous, really. Then I noticed another girl near her who had not one ounce of makeup on. I singled out the non-made-up-girl-with-natural-beauty afterwards to tell her how beautiful she looked...she beamed at my compliment!
