On Saturday, if you live in BC and watch the news in the middle of the day, you may have caught the little cooking segment at the end of the news. This is not something I'd ever thought I'd be doing, but it's been good to be challenged and venture out of my comfort zone somewhat. The people at Global were all so nice and it was a great experience. I really do enjoy the teaching/sharing part of cooking.
For a detailed account of our time there you can see Lovella's post today.
I see she mentioned how I had to quickly go backstage to beat the eggwhites. I think the producer was getting a bit nervous and, upon my return, he exclaimed "I did not know you could beat eggs in 2 minutes!" It actually was less. No problem.
As for the news closer to home . . . infact, right at home . . . we've been working on a living room make-over.
Our home is based on an old-fashioned plan that includes a formal living room along with a family room. Although the family room is really all that we use most of the time, the living room is a bonus room for when we have a larger party or gathering. Over the years I've worked with the colors of the old furniture when choosing paint or accessories, but it has been becoming more difficult as shades do change.
We finally decided to go for a new start. It began by ordering new furniture. The colors are a little off on the photos, but you get the idea. The striped material is a chair we already have and the two sample materials are samples of the new couches and chair. Once we had the material down, we chose the paint.
Just another view with the painting and cushions we already had. It looks like we'll still be able to use the same curtains as well as a lot of the same accessories. So that is good.
One of the drawbacks of trying to work with new colors in the room has been the paper that's been up for 24 years. It is vinyl paper that we put up without using primer. You could not talk me into trying to remove it. So we opted for something that we have not done before. It is called paint-able paper.
So, sometime during these past two weeks, we lost all sight of this wallpaper.
As we covered it with a primer and then paint-able wallpaper.
The window frames and baseboards will not be re-painted so I took care of that. Looks bad, but it's fun to see the results when you peel it back. The chair rail got changed to the color of the baseboard and window trim, while the whole wall (above and below the chair rail) got painted one of the colors on the palette above. I like samples that give you the range within the same tones, but sometimes it makes it hard to choose . . . they all match . . . it's just a matter of how deep you want to go.
As I write, it's all done! We are just waiting on the furniture to arrive. I hope it's on the next truck.

I love your LR makeover...making the most of the old and adding some beautiful new pieces. Enjoy!
You two did such a good job on the news segment!
Makeovers like these are a lot of work, but so satisfying at the end when everything comes together.
I hope you show us the end result!
Don't you love "just before Christmas" renovations?! The good thing is that it makes you get it done because you have a deadline!
It's going to look beautiful and I hear you about not removing the wallpaper (lots of experience doing that one and it's not fun). Hope you show us the finished room.
I can only imagine that you can really anticipate the new furniture fitting in. We will be waiting for the final results.
Now, at least you can relax and enjoy the rest of the season without being stretched. You did a great job.
I can hardly wait to see the finished product! You guys are so amazing...want to come work on my house next? My basement needs a makeover.....
It's going to be gorgeous! We did the same thing this year. And we peeled off the wallpaper bit by bit - oh my goodness! What a job. But actually my daughter in law put wallpaper up in their new home - go figure - it's coming back in style. But never again in this house! :)
Looking forward to the pictures!
And way to go on the TV show - I can hardly wait to see it!
Congratulations on your TV appearance and on your almost finished new living room. I like your color scheme. I am looking forward to seeing the finished room.
I keep hearing a truck . . .oh wait..that is the truck traffic outside my office window. I hope it is on it's way to your place.
I love the project and can't wait to see the reveal.
Your choices are wonderful. I am thinking it will be much easier to copy you than to think or our own redo here. :)
I liked the picture of you beating egg whites.
I just love the look of what the samples you gave us a peek at. I so wish we were good at decorating....we are so challenged in that area....so we just stick with the old...which is really looking and feeling old.
I had to giggle at the picture of you beating the egg whites behind stage. Too funny! I'm eager for the living room reveal!
If you put up that paper 24 years ago without primer, you made a wise choice not trying to remove it. There is a reason for putting on a primer first, and letting it cure. The 'Anaglypta' style of paper (paintable) is an ideal choice for this type of application. We do a lot of this in our business and it always looks great.
Congrats on your TV experience! I hope it helps you sell more of your cookbooks.
The livingroom fabrics are great. They look very calming, yet classy.
what an wonderful experience -- you are indeed bless..
Have not thought of painting on wallpaper -- neat idea!
Hugs

Just watched the TV clip on the MGCC blog, it was great!! The food looks awesome and you did a really great job.
So very proud of you ladies for all that you have accomplished this year.
I think that I might have to come for a visit when your reno is done.

The backstage whipping is hilarious! And how fun to give the living room a facelift!
