How Many Can We Fit?

I peeked into the playhouse in our basement, the one Papa built almost twenty-five years ago. It's built into dead space between the furnace and a closet . . . two storeys, with a door and a window.

It sat ignored for some years after our kids grew up, and younger nieces grew out of it, but it does not even seem that long. It's one of the first places the little ones find when they come over.

Once again, as it often happens these days, I could hardly believe the scene. Where did they all come from? And to think, four is half of them!

They are so proud when they can safely make it up to the loft by themselves, turn off the light and pretend to go to sleep.

Oops, it looks like the lady of the house decided it was time to do some serious clean up! Happens often. Just chuck it all down, great grandma's crocheted blankets, babies and all, while the man rides out the storm. They learn early.

Oh yes.... and one of their favorite giggle/screach times is when adults try to scare them from outside the window, feeling quite smug and safe behind those bars.
Sigh . . . by the time you are a grammy you know that this too will soon pass . . . making the etching of another memory in the life of the playhouse even more important.

Oh yes...I would have loved a playhouse like this. They are lucky children! If only those walls could hold each memory and then recite them to you on the quiet days.

Very cute photos!

Every grand should be so lucky...as to have a two-story play castle at the grandparent's home! They will have such good memories of this time (that passes much too quickly).

Anneliese, I've seen your playhouse and it is a child's dream!
What wonderful memories they will have of playing in it!
May it stand for yet another generation! smile

Brilliant idea - I've never seen anything like that! A great place for cousins to make fun memories.

What a terrific idea for a play house - what child wouldn't just love this. Your words and pictures are beautiful and wise - these times do pass much too quickly as only a grammie knows!

We don't even have grand-kids yet, and I want my hubby to build one of these playhouses for them. What a terrific time the little ones must have!

That was so sweet!
I was looking at our two, unused goat sheds and thinking, just recently, that I'd better power wash them, as they would make perfect playhouses for the boys when they come in May.
I love the look on the face of each of those little ones - the look that says 'I've found something wonderful'.

That playspace is one of the cleverest I've seen. Like Lovella, I'd have loved this as a child and know my grands would too!
