I'm just going to ask. What are the dreams you aspired to somewhere along your adult time-line? I mean the kind of dreams that may or may not come true. Getting into your own house, backpacking across Europe, earning a degree, a happy marriage, healing from illness, a baby, a kindred spirit kind of friend, reaching your ideal weight, your own car . . . the list can be as varied as the uniquely you person that you are.
Sometimes it's good to look back and remember what it was we wanted because we forget and may never appreciate that it did or did not happen.
I was only a teenager when I knew who I'd be marrying. In fact, as a teen bride, I don't know what it's like to wait until a mature age and wonder if it will ever happen. At times it seems that being young, gave me the benefit of not having expectations. I've sailed through a lot of life with the "expected" happening before I'd even recognize that need or desire.
There is, however, one dream that I was reminded of recently. It was the wish to see our youngest, our son, become a dad. I'm not quite sure why that was a special desire.
Maybe that is why, when I look at this photo, I get tears in my eyes.
I love this photo because I see two special men being who God created them to be. How often over the years have I seen them walking side by side . . . the one a miniature replica of the other . . . discussing things . . . the younger listening with rapt attention or . . . on other occasions . . . telling the older how it should be. The memories make me smile.

I get it. I have tears in my eyes when I see that picture too, wondering what it will be like for my sons to have children someday. It seems like I write this so often to your posts...but you are blessed!!
So beautiful to see dreams realized through your eyes Anneliese. Blessings...
Love love love this photo... Thank you for sharing it, and also for sharing your precious boy with me ;) your post reminds me of my dear oma, who often says she only hoped to live long enough to frank get married...and what an amazing testimony she has! God's blessings beyond measure, at 103 she's still making paska and jam for her 25 great grand children! As your dreams are realized, may He put new ones in your heart!
Having my own little cabin in the woods, a canoe and living on what I hunted fished and grew. Those dreams I found out, are really only for men.
Your words touched my heart. My dream has been to have my children come to the Lord in their adult years - like the childlike faith they had when they were young. Some have done so, others are still "a work in progress". God is good.

A great photo...and wonderful words to go with it! So true...that often we don't stop to acknowledge that our heart's deepest desires have come true. Though I have been given much...more than I could ever ask or wish for...I am still trusting God for something big. Hope is a good thing!
How wonderful to see dreams come to life. This photo is beautiful. Blessings to you and your family.
What a thought provoking post Anneliese! My greatest desire that came true in my lifetime so far was to have a beautiful daughter. The Lord saw favour on me after heart wrenching years of trying to conceive. Now she has just married and we are praising God for this miracle child that we had the privilege of raising and calling our own! Any other desires and dreams I have don't seem as important as this one was - though, I continue to have dreams and wishes for a better world and for grace from God above in my future on this earth and beyond. Thanks for reminding me to give thanks!!!!
I hear your heart...I see similarities between our family. One son, two daughters. There is something so special...and I see two grandsons adoring there father and grandfather. That bond is special.
So happy to see you have your dreams become reality and I've learned that sometimes I need to restructure my dreams, day by day.
It's such a joy to see our children's happiness and fulfillment.
I see on your bloglist that there are 8 'private blogs'. Are these ones you write for your family, or are you not the blogger on them? I don't mean to be nosy, but it's amazing to me that anyone could keep up more than 1 blog!
Hollace those private blogs are other family or friends whose blogs are by invitation. I would not want to be responsible to write for more than one either. =)
Such a great picture and post. There is something about seeing our sons find a woman who loves them that is very special to a mother's heart...and to watch them grow into being godly fathers is even more special, I think perhaps because they reflect in them the men that we fell in love with.
You write so beautifully!! I always enjoy reading your blog. Love the photo:):) Many blessings to your family.
I can't think of a better gift. Your way of expressing your heart is always a blessing to me, in my visits here. Answered prayers are gifts we carry in our hearts, and hope is one of His best gifts. Good picture!
