Hummor me. I'm not a seamstress and not even a wanna be . . . but I realize that a number of my best friends on this site are . . . and so it takes a bit of courage to show this.
It's funny that, although I do not remember a stitch about my eighth grade Home Ec sewing class - other than frustration - some of the things my grandmother patiently taught me . . . as she fixed anything that needed fixing for our family . . . have stayed with me.
I confess, I did not take apart the hem that was there. I merely flipped it over (pants inside out) and ironed the hem where I wanted it to be. Then I began with a good stitch on the seam - going left to right - I took a tiny stitch above the hem, looped it and did the next stitch on the hem - repeating the process until I was done.

As a young girl I never would have thought how this simple process would remind me of her for the rest of my life.

I will be the LAST person to judge anyone else's sewing! It looks just fine to me!
Well done - it looks perfect to me!!!
I'm with the first Kathy:)
You paid close attention to someone you admired. She would have smiled and been proud of you if she could have been peering over your shoulder as you worked stitch by stitch. A perfect job...inside and out.
Good job!! Reminds me that I have a couple of pairs of pants that need to be shortened before I wear a hole in them!
It looks so perfect Anneliese. I love how you are sentimental and remember beautiful things in the every day tasks.
I would do the same thing..never mind cutting it off...just turn it over. I'm hoping that our kids today will be able to remember some of those things also.
Good for you! Your grandmother would be proud!
My mom taught me to hem...seems that everything I bought was too long! I too, just turn the existing hem up unless it would be too bulky. I must admit, I really dislike hemming...and lucky for me, an accomplished seamstress moved in across the street, so all future hemming jobs will be done by her.
That hem-job is perfection! You do your grandmother proud.
Your grandmother and my mother would be so proud of you and the job you did. I still have memories of my mother telling me how the stitches need to look on the visible side. I am still smiling at the memory. You did a good job.
I love that a simple thing brings such sweet memories of your grandmother.
And you did do a great job! smile
