A Paper Smile Box

I've had the joy of being on the receiving end of smile boxes Kari sends to my inbox . . . little slide shows of a special memory put to music . . . a beautiful way to connect with our Prairie girls.

Because I'm still somewhat technically challenged I tend to think of
old fashioned ways to do things.

I only wish I could add the music.

It's a plain paper cardboard booklet that one can pick up at an arts & craft store . . .

add some special photo memories . . .

and some embelishments.

Words are not really needed.

This book is a collection of things she did at our house before they moved . . .

it's a picture book that little ones can easily access . . .

A paper smile box.
I think it's time to do another one.

Grandparenting is so much fun, and so rewarding. Your ability to do it so creatively from a distance is admirable - what a blessing that your kids seem to have taken turns living away. :) Hoping that you have some "all together time" to look forward to this Christmas!

Anneliese are you shooting differently for pix you'll print, to those you will put online (or in the book?)

Very good idea, that little booklet, which I will consider as soon as you answer :).

is so cute! I'll have to do this for my grand kids. This is such a simple idea and something she'll treasure for along time.

Sharon,
I'm not sure what you mean by shooting differetnly, but what I did for the album is I played with the colors on picasa and toned down the color just for a certain look in the paper album. Is that what you mean?
Thanks for asking though...

Hi Anneliese sorry I was not clear. The pictures in the booklet were prints, actual hold in your hand prints, weren't they? And for the blog I assume they are electronic.

I'm just wondering what you do to make the photos that look so good on the blog, look as good on a real print. I've heard there are problems with that. Sharon

Sharon ... yes, the photos in the booklet were prints I had printed at Walmart. There are several sizes of booklets.. for this one I did 4X6 photos.
I've not really thought about it, but I guess, depending on where they get developed they could look better on the screen than on the actual photo. I've not had a problem, but I do know that when you order them online they do not do any kind of photo shop stuff ... so if you want to lighten a photo up you have to do it before ordering the photos.
More of the editing gets left to the customer, it seems. However, I think that if you bring your photos in on a disc, most places will use their discretion to make it as nice as possible. You can ask them to lighten or crop etc and they will do that.
I hope that helps. So much to learn... but so nice to be able to send/show photos digitaly and not have to pay anything for them. =)

Those are the treasures that one keeps for ever. I love how you creatively put things together for your family. You know just how to add that touch of Home to your prairie children

Thanks Anneliese. I may do this.

I have several photos that look great (although they don't approach yours)but I wondered if they would lose a lot when made into prints. We shall see.

What a treasure for you to have. I am sure on the days that you receive one of these, your ordinary type day suddenly becomes extra-ordinary.
