I was scrolling through my pictures on Picasa, on the lookout for a not so perfect kitchen shot and became very much aware of the fact that photos in the kitchen don't really happen unless there is a good reason. This one stopped me short. There was no good reason. I studied it for quite some time, trying to figure out what in the world I was making . . . because that is when you take a photo, right?
I finally figured out that I was not making something . . . I was cleaning up! All of the randomness, such as the stacked pots and dirty empty platter, fell into place. Suddenly I could even guess what we had for dinner!
Funny, the story a random picture can tell. Like the bottled water on the counter . . . something I never buy because we have perfectly good water coming out of the tap. . . but I remember one time we had to resort to it for several days due to a contaminated water warning . . . and the proof is there. I can tell that family with a baby was visiting because of the can of formula on the counter. And the thing that really bugs me, just as it does in real life, is my habit of leaving drawers and doors open as I work. Its not too bad here . . . but sometimes there are a lot of open cupboards when I cook.
So there you see my random, messy kitchen . . . but you're still welcome to drop in! I'll clean quick and make some coffee.

I would love to "drop in" for a visit in your kitchen again! I hate to see cupboards and drawers open too. My husband leaves them all open after he empties out the dishwasher, and I have to remind myself to quietly shut them behind him b/c at least he is helping me! :-)
oh, don't bother cleaning, I love random messy kitchens, because love is created there and it makes me feel at home :) Besides, the company and coffee is what matters ;)and you show the love well my friend!
Though I love a clean kitchen...mine seems to be messy more often than not. Somehow I thought yours was always clean! What I do know...it's always inviting:)
Love this. Dear is always closing cupboards and drawers behind me that I leave open when cooking.
Cute picture and post! Nice to know your kitchen gets messy, too! My hubby is the one who leaves drawers and doors open...drives me crazy!!
I love it...keeping it real. I have a huge issue with cupboard doors open...go figure. The mess while cooking though?....I wish I could learn to keep the area clean of spills while I hurry about making and baking.
I will stop in for that coffee. :)
It's nice to know your kitchen gets messy once in awhile, too. But then such delicious meals come from it and one can't bake a cake without breaking eggs (and likely dropping one sometimes).
Where is your apron? Aren't you famous for that?
I was thinking the other day in the midst of my very messy kitchen that it's not a pretty sight when I cook. But like you, I'll always welcome someone in - they just have to take us as we are! It's the smile in your picture that really tells the story.
