Easy Scrapbooking

As I've mentioned in a previous post on scrapbooking, January is usually a good time to check out the highlights of the past year. I'm falling behind on that but working on it.

What I have come to enjoy more than working on current photos, is organizing the old slides and photos. When there is time. Precious time.

So here is what I have begun to do. I purchase a photo album that has the sleeves for five photos per page. These albums usually hold about 250 photos. My goal has been five years into one book.

After scanning the old, I choose and organize the photos according to page layout . . . cropping according to horizontal or vertical position of sleeve, before actually ordering them online.

Because the "cropping" has been done, I can order them with the white border.

When I pick them up, there is no trimming or frames to cut. I just place them in their sleeves. I like the white frames against the black background.

Sometimes a story is in place and I add that to a sleeve.

I see that some of these need a little straightening . . . as photos do shift a bit . . .

but you get the idea . . . embellishments can still be added over top of the plastic sleeve.

This may not a true scrapbooker's dream but for now
it's about finding a balance between dreams and getting things done.

This is a great way of organizing those old photos. Love the idea of adding the white border to the prints. Someday... :-)

Oh you are doing so well!! I bought a few decorative boxes and stored a lot of photos in order there - which is a step up from their old box under the bed :) I'll keep your method in mind - it's a good one!

Very nice. Where do you find nice photo albums like that? I can't seem to find nice photo albums anymore since the scrap booking fad came about.

Anonymous ...I got this one at Target . . . then I got another one more recently at Homesense Canada ($ 16.99) I think I've seen them at Walmart too. In Canada Super Store is also a place to check.

great idea! I love the way scrapbooks look but could never justify the time to do it. So, I just put pictures in albums and write a line or two about the year or place or event. But this would sure look nicer. thanks!

Great idea and great way to balance time and energy. I did a digital book for my husband for Christmas and might do more of those in the future.

I'm with you on the getting it done aspect. These books look so nice Anneliese. What a treasure for your kids and grands!

What do you do about names and places? I find it so frustrating to see old photos that no-one is alive anymore to say who that is... .

What a great idea! I was just starting to feel a little behind and overwhelmed- this might be the perfect fix:)

This method suits me better than full-on scrapbooking. Nice! I also like the idea of setting a limit of pictures per 5 years because it's easy to get carried away (even more so with grandchildren, I'm finding : )

Sharon, that is a good question. I have been more careful about names and places with the older albums than with the newer ones, which in most cases, I think photos should tell the story to my children.
Date-wise I try to post evrything according to date and I add details where necessary in little notes or stories that I add... but I know I could be more specific and it would probably be a good idea to add any details to the back of the photo .... which can be easily removed since I only use corner tape.

I dream of this happening in my home. You, as always, seem to make it all look so effortless and beautiful. Actally, I do like the way the books look and anyone who gets to look at them will be so appreciative of your hours of time and work. You have inspired me this evening.

Nice! I like how you set parameters so the task can be suitably limited and therefore doable.

My photo filled drawer is so waiting for this to happen! You have done well to keep up with this. I keep saying that I'll do this ...someday!

I think it is just wonderful how you balance your scrapbooking. It is logical and beautiful all at the same time.

I like how you have organized your scrapbooks/photos -- what a gift for your family. You have inspired me to work on my 22 photo albums to make scrapbooks for each of our children. Thanks for the great tips.

Wow, great job! Five years worth of photos!! I have hundreds, maybe thousands of pics that need to be organized. And they're everywhere, in computers, on discs, thumbdrives, boxes, albums...it's crazy. I guess I just need to start...

Hi -- found you again.. I left but now I am back.. I love the simpleness of this -- just looking at it take off the added stress of doing a scrapbook of my Married life - I think I will work - now gotta look into whereto pick up set of photo books.. Thanks for the idea.

So grateful for the idea. A friend is wanting me to scrapbook with her, but I find all the embellishments so overwhelming. This is such a beautiful balance, and fits my personality much better. Thank you for sharing!!

What a wonderful way to continue keeping on top of making your family albums. It's fun to see how you demonstrated so carefully the procedures needed to make this beautiful album. Thanks for sharing some great hints.
