Bride Wears her Mother's Dress

I'm not quite sure why I find family weddings rather emotional.
With this one, the tears threatened when I saw Rosalynn in her mom's wedding dress,

Here she is, my only sister, the one I stood up for in a Once Upon a Time land.

Being an auntie gives me some special privileges and I got to go and see Rosalynn  as she was waiting in the library before the ceremony started. I took some quick impromptu shots in case I would not have much of a view later.
Now, if you look at the back of this dress, I will point out some little changes made to it. The original dress had a zipper all the way to the top. Rosalynn wanted a lace up idea. Since the sweetheart neckline did not lend itself to a full lace up, the seamstress came up with a unique idea, using a tear drop opening. I was told that quite a bit of the lace at the bottom of the dress was removed and then the flounce part of it was picked up a bit more. The veil was switched up with a simple blusher.

Our artsy, movie loving couple used old frames and chalkboard ideas for their props. Their guest book was a beautiful photo album that guests signed wherever they pleased.

During the weeks before the wedding, mother and daughter spent many hours making the paper flower bouquets for tables, bridesmaids and the bride.

The ceremony . . . I could have enjoyed it a bit longer! Such a significant covenant . . . so short
. . . the bridal party came in . . . I could not even catch the flower girl and ring bearer as they raced by . . .the couple  made their vows . . . they signed . . . there was a grandparent's prayer
and they were pronounced husband and wife.

At the reception we enjoyed a catered Mexican buffet and then desserts made by the family.
There was a lot of chatter and family heading to different tables to catch up with each other.

I saw Bob and Monika still smiling after 33 years . . .
oh . . .  and it's their fourth and last to be married.
Maybe that plays into it.

The girl cousins came and asked if I'd take a photo of them . . .
Naomi, Chelsea, Kristal, Julene, Katie,
Carmen, Rosalynn and Larissa. We missed Kari.
And if you look closely . . . three babies are on the way.
So much fun!

The wedding cake was definitely eye catching!
So uniquely made for them by Erin Toews.

Rosalynn and Mark . . .
thank you for allowing us to be part of your day!

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

You documented the wedding so nicely Anneliese. They made some great alterations to the dress to make it the bride's own, too. Lovely. I love cousin photos!

What a lovely wedding that must have been. Like your niece I wore my mother's gown. To me, it was the quintessential wedding dress. I've saved it, but my daughter was too tall- perhaps a granddaughter, one day!

Thank you for capturing the day in such a beautiful way. It all came together to represent who they are.

Thanks for giving us a sneak peek at the wedding! The altered wedding dress looks beautiful, as does the bride. I like all the original ideas that couples come up with these days.

How special that your niece wore her mom's dress! That doesn't happen too often. Thanks for giving us a 'peek' into the wedding celebrations...with so many unique features. What a great verse you ended the post with.

Sweet that she wore her mom's dress! Quite an original cake! I'd be interested to know how they made the flowers...I'll have to "google" that!! :-)

Oh I so enjoyed seeing the bride and the dress and the mom in the original dress. You always write it all so eloquently. Most of the time I can kind of perceive already how you will describe something but when you called it a sweetmeat neckline, I just had to smile...didn't see that coming! =)

Well, I did not see that one coming either!! Really? I was so sure I had not written that... but there it was! I guess only a true friend would tell you. Where were the other 105?

A lovely post Anneliese - thanks for sharing your well taken pictures. I love that she wore her mom's dress and also the paper flowers and unique wedding cake. This seemed to be a wedding that definitely showcased who the bride and groom are.

What a beautiful bride and dress - so great that she wore her mum's dress. I love how you described the wedding alterations and beautiful decor. The "cousins" picture is precious.
BTW - I think auto correct messes with spelling and words sometimes - don't you?

Just a little something from Judy said...

I like the uniqueness and the artistic appeal that was included in this wedding. I find it so interesting that she wore her mother's gown. She looked so pretty in it! I liked the cousin's picture and how you remembered the missing one. I liked the wedding décor and the beautiful paper flowers.

What a special moment, the family wedding. I went to a wedding this weekend, too, but not a family one. The idea that Rosalynn used which I think is so neat is the personal photobook as a guestbook. Of course I have seen the photobooks and I have seen a wide variety of guest signatures (On a wide matted photo, on a map, etc) But I had not seen this idea and I like it! Wouldn't it be fun to do this for a 50th anniversary with photos from the couples life together?
I always enjoy your thoughts & writing.
