Have you ever been to your local MCC Sale?
In the past few years I've had the privilege to attend MCC Relief Sales in other
communities and it is always interesting to see how similar to each other these sales are,
whether in the US or in Canada, and I'm quite sure I could add other countries.
There is a common thread of like-minded people serving for a good cause.
A lot of the food, from what I've seen, is the same -
how can that be?
Handcrafted furniture, toys, quilts, canned goods,
crafts that volunteers have worked on all year for this weekend
with no other intent but to give to those in need.
There are auctions, activities for kids and live music groups . . .
and if you do not need anything . . .
you can still enjoy some great ethnic food and
meet up with long lost friends.
I was talking with my cousin who spent a day this week in the kitchen with other volunteers
mixing Rollkuchen dough to be ready to roll and cook on the weekend.
She told me she cracked 680 eggs
and they used 160 kg or 350 lbs of flour.
That is just for the Rollkuchen.
I wonder how many cabbages were chopped for Borscht
and how many Warenike have been made?
If you can come to the Abbotsford MCC Relief Sale
tonight or tomorrow morning, come by the Souvenir Booth, close to Ten thousand Villages,
and purchase a book or two to help provide clean water for kids in Kenya.
It sure would not be fun to sit there with no one coming by.
Just sayin' . . .

Wish I was close enough to come by! :-) Enjoy! We love going to our local relief sale. Donuts are the hot item at our sale. And all white quilts sell for big bucks. Always interesting to watch the auction. And you're right, a great place to see long lost friends.
Have fun and hope that you have a lot of people stopping by to chat and to buy your fabulous cook book ..... We have our sale next weekend.
I see myself tucked up under one of those quilts eating a scone with that jam. MMM.
Unfortunately, we don't have a MCC sale here.
I so want to be there!

Aw, thank you, Louise! I'm go glad you enjoyed your first visit! It was also my son-in-law's first time . . . he can't get over the connections. He's not Mennonite... but I'm sure that's not just Mennonite. =)
We love our local MCC Relief Sale here in Ontario too!! Fresh Strawberry Pie is a huge draw here as are the amazing quilts and other food items and hand crafted items. Half way through the quilt auction (around noon) the packed arena full of bidders is led in song for a resounding "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" - it's spine chillingly wonderful!
Our sale is on the last Saturday in May - you should come here next May for a book signing - hint????
Hope you have many, many visitors today......
My mom quilts for the MCC every Wednesday. Both my parents were working there this weekend, too. I've never been to the sale, but would love to one day.
I'm hoping your book makes it east to the 10,000 Villages sale. That's where I bought your first one.
Wish we had the MCC sale here too - it looks like a great one.
Hope you sell lots of books and I'm sure you'll have fun with all the girls!
It was a good time! Thankfully we had many visitors over at our table. :)
If only it were possible, I would be visiting you at the Abbotsford Relief Sale table. I have been to numerous relief sales and always come away impressed by the generosity and creativity of those involved in the sale. Your pictures make it look even more inviting.
