The Lenten Rose

The Lenten rose has to be my favorite early Spring flower.  I remember the very first time I saw a full blooming plant not long before my dad passed away.  When he died, I went out and got one to bloom every year at this time. I was sad when that particular plant did not come back after one particular winter.

We got a new plant this year.
My H left it in the original pot and just put it into a decorative pot we had
stored in the shed.
Welcoming us at the front door,
it's pretty green petals continue to hold promise of life.

And speaking of green and celebrating life . . . we have a St. Patrick's birthday boy
celebrating his sixth birthday today!
He's gone ahead of us to California and spending time with his Gramma and Grumpa
I'll get an up-to-date photo when we catch up with him.
In the meantime, have a very fun day, Landon!
May you always stay as sweet as you are today!

I admired that plant as I drove up to your place today...so pretty! I had no idea that's what it was called!

The rose is lovely and the story that goes with it is sweet. I have a gardenia bush that came from a cutting from my granddad's bush. I think of him every time I look at it.Happy Birthday to Landon! :-)

Such a pretty plant. Hellebore blooms are so welcome at this time of year.

Such a pretty flower with so much meaning! I know Ellen has one too. I'm wondering if they would survive in my zone - I'll have to check into that.

I'll enjoy your flowers vicariously…we are digging out of 10 inches of snow today!

One of my favorites as well! I just snipped some sprigs off my Lenten Rose today to put in a vase on the table. They are a long-lasting cut flower.

Happy Birthday, Landon.

Looks like we are all enjoying our Lenten Roses. I was gifted one from my son in law last mothers day. It actually bloomed through until fall. It sits in an urn almost like yours and is lovely again this year. I like the story that accompanies yours:)

What a beautiful flower. I've never seen this plant before. Probably doesn't grow here except in hothouse situations.
