As a child, living in Vancouver, it was a simple matter to get to the airport,
but coming from Abbotsford, the route has become very confusing to me
as my H has found ways about and whatever shortcuts he could -
which honestly never seemed like shortcuts to me.
The other day, heading to the airport to pick up friends returning from China,
we got on the highway and, instead of heading through Langley to take the 99,
we took the new Hwy 17 Connector before the Port Mann Bridge.
This highway has been recently constructed to improve the commute between ports and railways with access to borders and the Tswwassen ferry terminal. We came around the bend here and I was taken back when I saw the Port Mann Bridge up ahead, from the side. Somehow I'd always imagined it to be crossing water and not much else.
We drove right under the bridge beside the one being taken down.
I like this view of the old one running beside the new one.
We continued on the same highway, going under the Alex Fraser Bridge,
then came around to cross the Fraser River.
On this day we found it cut down on time to the airport, but for me,
the best thing was that it made the way much easier to follow.

Isn't this just the best way to get to the airport? We have used it several times now and it is a breeze. It also cuts off a fair chunk of time!!
It's also the best/fastest way to the Tsawassen ferries. Too bad it wasn't finished yet those years that I could have used it.
Too Funny!!! We just tried it out last Saturday too and I took almost the exact same pictures! :-)
Beautiful photos from the road, Anneliese!
Those bridges are so awesome. Glad they've improved the commute to the Airport!!!
I took it recently and wished I could have been a passenger instead of driving solo, as I wanted photos. Yours are gorgeous!
Beautiful. I love your travelogues.
Sharon :)
So much in our lives includes the old and the new. At times, I don't know which I prefer. In the case of the new bridge, it is quite impressive! We don't have a bridge as state of the art as that one. Thanks for sharing it.
Nice bridge pictures! Glad you found an easy way to get to where you were going. Simple is always good!
Anneliese, we haven't used that highway yet but I loved your photos and will definitely take it next time we head to the airport.
I have lived in Washington for forty years and have not yet made it to Vancouver. It is still on my list of things to do. It seems like our summers are always so busy and that everyone comes to visit us, so we are entertaining instead of traveling, LOL. I love your blog and I must say that the shower was perfection. Everything was so special and beautiful :) This is my first time visiting your blog. I came here by way of a mutual follower :) You write some very interesting posts. Thanks for letting me tag along, tonight :)
