Blueberry Season

If you live in this area you will have noticed, driving by the blueberry fields,
that they are ripe unto harvest. They are early this year.

We grabbed our ice cream pails
and from the oldest

to the youngest . .

picked berries to fill our buckets.
It was nice to have such eager helpers.

When I got home, I rinsed them in the kitchen sink full of water,
lifted them out into a strainer and then into lined cookie sheets to dry.
Once dry, they went into rectangular stack-able Ziploc containers for the freezer.

Of course, there were some that never made it to the freezer.

Love blueberries!
I don't think there are any upick places around these parts, so I was glad I got to take a small pail back from my inlaws when we were visiting.

Blueberries are very early this year. We've been indulging in lots of them from our own couple of bushes. So delicious. I buy the boxes from Bergen Farms to freeze in flat bags, just as you've done. Such a wonderful treat in wintertime.

We don't have high bush berries here. Just the low wild ones. I usually buy a 10 pound box of Nova Scotia berries and freeze them right in the box. They keep great!

Loved your trip to Seattle post - what fun! A belated Happy Birthday to your dh!

What kind of pie is this? We love blueberries as well and picked a number of buckets several weeks ago. Yummy, for our winter desserts and treats

One of the best blueberry posts that I have seen! We have an abundance of them here too, and we like finding new ways to eat them. Your pie is picture perfect!

When I see you picking these blueberries I think of your blueberry scones which I make regularly in summer time. They make a quick batch with a splash that everyone walks away wondering about that recipe. Thanks and enjoy them.
