Third children sometimes miss out on early one on one time.
They just kind of come along with the package when their siblings come over.
I know . . . amongst cousins . . . the third name is often not even mentioned
Natalie asked me recently when Tehya and Paeton are coming to visit . . .
obviously that included Makenna.
Now that the older ones are at school . . .
it is easier to have Koen come over on his own
and it's like he is a different person all by himself . . .
not having to stake out his territory
or fight for the tool that obviously has his name on it.
He's all boy when it comes to play . . .
and when I asked him if he wanted to help me make pizza buns

he was all in as well!
"I like how the dough is so fluffy " he said before even touching it . . .
"and I like how it smells!"
Mine went into the big oven
and his into the small oven.
He was a happy boy.
I like to think that one day . . . when he's all grown up,
maybe backpacking in Europe . . .
he will smell bread rising and baking . . . somewhere . . .
and he will remember a moment like this.

A sweet post! And a sweet boy!! and those pizza buns look amazing!
What a sweet memory you're making for him!
I have no doubt he will remember those great memories with his grandma.

It's good when children are taught what they need to be independent adults, because then they can teach others. My daughter was the first girl in her school to take both home economics AND shop. It's paid off.
Today, because of watching my mother service her sewing machine and making the connection that it was really, just another machine, I taught myself to service my kitchen applicances rather than replace them, or ask someone else to do it for me, and, this week, (sigh) I will take my oven door apart to get at the panes of glass that have somehow got dribbles baked in between them. Needs must, but also, just feels good to be resourceful.
Koen is lucky to have such a progressive and resourceful grandmother.

My daughter spent quality time in the kitchen with me and with both of her grandmothers. This led her into the perfect career for her and she is now a registered dietitian utilizing her love of healthy food and her gift of baking, cooking and communicating. I wonder her career path would have been had she not had early and positive food experiences?
He WILL remember!!!
Taking time for one at a time, is always special. I treasure those rare moments. The pizzas look exceptionally good! He is fortunate to have you as his grandma. Cute pictures!
This is such a cute post. I can almost smell his pizza buns baking. Without a doubt, he will remember!

That's one of my favorite things to do is bake with the boys. It becomes so special with them all alone. I'm glad you are getting one on one's.
I feel quite sure that this day will always stand out in his memory. There's nothing quite like one on one time and especially when it includes baking your very own pizza buns.
So sweet that even though he is all boy, he still appreciates fluffy dough :).
I'm sure he will. What a sweet Koen Day you had!
I have had the pleasure of following you almost from the beginning. I was a missionary in Argentina and your blog reminded me of home. I could relate to much of your daughter's journey of living overseas. It has been so fun to follow your families journey. How special then that now I am home back teaching preschool, and this dear boy is in my class. It has been a joy to see him grow and flourish in the last few months. He is determined and focused but also has the most tender, sweet spirit. Kristal is wonderful as well. What a treat to be able to get to know them. Blessings, Leana
Dear Leana,
You ARE back! I remember communication with you through the blog when you were in Argentina and had recently heard you were back but I did not know you are Koen's teacher. Wow! It's a small world! I'm so happy to hear. Thank you for leaving a note.
what a treasured memory that will be! it's awesome that you make time for each of your grankids!
Of course he was a happy boy! What fun times at Mimi's house.
He will remember, Anneliese! I know what you mean about the first having a one-on-one spot but the ones coming after have to share...even though each is loved the same!
