Generally I will not post about things we do with friends.
In thinking about this now,
I realize that we do not even take pictures of the some of the best times . . .
times that re-charge and encourage us in the day to day things we call life.
So, it was with a bit of hesitation that I grabbed my camera
as we left our house on Tuesday night.
Twice a month we meet up with a small church group called a pastorate (or Care Group)
in one of our homes.
For this night we had planned a progressive dinner,
for which four of us would be taking turns hosting at different times of the evening.
I'm sharing this because it really is such a fun way to divide up the meal and have a peek into each other's houses at this time of the year.
Why not get together a group of friends and try it?
Our first host and hostess had hot apple cider and a spread of appetizers
ready for us on the kitchen island as we came in from the cold.
We took a plate of tiny "yummies" and spread out in two different sitting rooms.
The lights and candles flickering called for a comfort that made you want to stay,
but before long we realized we'd have to move on in order to get more "meal".
At the next house, we helped ourselves to a delicious salad with bacon and mandarins,
chatting it up in different groups around the living spaces all decked out for the season.
So much fun, but my H and I had to rush off
so we'd be at our place before everyone else got there.
Dinner was taken out of the oven and crockpots and served quite promptly . . .
and I did not take any pictures of the German meal we had.
Our fourth and final stop welcomed us with a couple of beautiful trifles.
Of course, they were not just beautiful but delicious!
We helped ourselves to coffee or tea and dessert
and enjoyed the one open living space together
wherever we could find a place to sit.
It seemed like no one wanted to leave . . .
but the reminder that this was the middle of the week
finally got us on our feet again.
All I can say it that it is such a privilege to be part of a group
in which we can look into God's Word and pray for each other.
This is just one of the blessings of the meaning of Christmas.

Looks like fun! Our youth group does this once a year, good way for the youth to get into other adults' homes. Seeing these pics makes me want to do this with our friends!
I can tell you right now, that I would have enjoyed being a part of such a lovely, fun, and festive event. Your shared it in such a beautiful way! The trifle picture is exceptional! What a great way to visit your friends and their homes over the holidays.
what a great way to enjoy a tummy meal and to celebrate it with friends makes it even more enjoyable - thank you for sharing!
What a special evening. When I was a teenager we held progressive dinners in our youth group. I've wanted to do one in our family for several years, but we live too far apart from each other - more than 30 minutes in some cases. Maybe someday! Thanks for sharing.
I love progressive meals like this! Looks like yours was wonderful and what a blessing to have such special friends to share this with. This post sings "Hospitality"!
What a fun experience at each home. I love the idea of a progressive meal and it's been years since we participated in one. Glad you took your camera.
Beautiful pictures Anneliese. You captured the feeling of each home so wonderfully. We are blessed to be a part of such an encouraging and fun group.
