Andreas Canyon

Andreas Canyon is one of about fifteen beautiful hiking trails hidden within the Indian Canyon.

One morning we decided to walk this short trail that took us through scenic rock formations

and groves of skirted palms.

The  stream flowing through this canyon, almost gives one a feeling
of walking through a lush jungle

its gurgling sound seeming out of place, yet very welcome.

The path leads uphill through a bit of underbrush

and you want to keep an eye out for crawly things on the ground

while looking up at the rock formations.

The upper view is not so lush, but so beautiful in its own way.
I could tell that another season would have shown off some desert flowers.

Again, we were startled when a strange sound warned  us to back off.
We did  . . . giving the rattler the right of way as she crossed the path.

It was just a quick little hike, with a beauty all it's own . . .
and unlike anything we'd find at home.

So different and yet so lovely! I've never been to the desert but friends of ours are moving to Arizona so now we have a place to visit :) I'm looking forward to it!

I've enjoyed catching up on your new. o glad your kids finally got their container - what a happy day for them all!

Hope you're having a wonderful holiday!

Not sure how excited I would have been to meet the snake on the trail but the rest of it looks lovely! So glad you are having a good vacation.

Yikes, those are quite the crawly things you encountered! The dessert is beautiful in the Spring!
I'll be so close to you tomorrow...relatively speaking!

Eek! That looks like an adventurous hike. Incredibly beautiful views. You had a calm hand on the camera to snap some of those pictures!

Sure hope you were using a zoom lens for that snake!

Ha! Kathy... I think I was about 7 - 8 feet away from the snake. Maybe Herb would correct me on that. Maybe it just felt close.

Andreas Canyone is a favourite of ours. We were very fortunate to be there in 2005 when the conditions were perfect and the desert was filled with flowers. Some hadn't bloomed in 50 years. There were miles of flower "carpet" in Joshua Tree park and such a variety everywhere we hiked as I'd never seen before. Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful place.
