Gift Opening

Gift opening was planned for right after the wedding!
Obviously planned by a young bride who figured
that we open our birthday gifts on our birthday, why not the wedding gifts?
In the end it was not a good idea, but here's the scoop.
After the reception . . . it was getting quite late,
family and other relatives packed into my mom and dad's basement
and we opened gifts in helter skelter fashion.
I had no semblance of mind to put names and gifts together
or to appreciate each individual gift as I would have liked.
Before we were done, we made an excuse to go upstairs and snuck away . . .
but that is another story!

I'm here to remember some of those lovely gifts . . .
especially the ones who have made it this far . . .
like the nesting bowls and casserole dishes.

a beautiful crock pot

a silver casserole stand  . . .

Faux wood salad bowls
and my precious rolling pin.

Crystal and glass bowls in abundance.
If I remember correctly, we exchanged one for a toaster and a clock.

Of course, the wedding was the time when most of the dishes for my china set were added.
Until I started thinking about it,
I had no idea I still had so much of what was gifted to us.
Pretty special.

This is fun! These posts are bringing back memories of our own wedding and the similarities so long ago. You were given some lovely gifts.

Ohh .. love this post, Anneliese ! you were gifted with some very beautiful gifts and so nice that you still have them to enjoy!
And yes, I remember .. that was the tradition of my day - gift opening were part of the wedding ... but I did have someone record the gifts with giver's name in my bridal book.

Oh, how fun! I love your treasures...and am thinking of many similar ones that I have. As for opening wedding gifts immediately after the wedding...that was how it was done 'back in the day'. I'm smiling at your 'great escape'!

Many of those gifts look very familiar and bring back warm memories. You inspire me to look around and take note of which wedding presents from 44 years ago, I am still using.

Love that you still have so many of your gifts 40 years later! The little crock pot and the silver casserole dish are my favorites!

We were married in 1973, and were given a slow-cooker much like yours. I had no idea what it was! And I grew up in a house of 2 wonderful cooks. Now, 42 years later, hardly a North American (at least) has not used or at least seen a slow-cooker. I'm sounding old, right?

We all did the open the gifts after the wedding, too. Now you get so many things before the wedding shipped right to the house. It makes better sense to open the gifts that do come on the wedding day after your honeymoon with some relaxed leisure added! That's great that you still have so many of the gifts...
