When you see Yourself

When you see yourself in a grandchild . . .
it might be a look
a dimple
or the way he or she walks . . .
It could be a personality trait,
a natural inclination,
a fear or a strength . . .

Sometimes you see childhood opportunities you missed
and how life has shaped you with your own experiences.
Sometimes you see yourself possibly making different choices
had you been born some fifty years later.

It's another chance, in a different context
yet being grateful for the things that stay the same . . .
the beauty of character
and the familiarity of family
unaffected by time.

Anneliese - Beautiful thoughts and beautiful photos - these young girls have such a resemblance. I love to see my children/grandchildren reflect the personalities and integrity of their grandparents and other family members.

"The familiarity of family unaffected by time" - I have experienced that many times in my nieces and nephews and in their children as well - even in my own grandchild. I so wish there were videos of my own grandparents to see how they walked and talked. I'm sure there would be similarities in their descendants. What a fascinating post Anneliese! You two really do look alike!

Seeing hints of oneself in a grandchild really brings home these thoughts, and thoughts of the continuity of life, of unique genes, of heredity, and of God's design in all of it. Wonderful photos - so much similarity.

This is a great reflection. Both the words and the photo. Such a blessed girl to have a wonderful grandma.

What an amazing testament to God's creative abilities. He can take a child and leave the touch of another generation for all to know who they belong to.

This is very interesting: I did not see that until this post but, clearly, yes.
