Something that never would have crossed my mind when when our kids were small
is that one day I'd be setting the table a day in advance in anticipation of coming together.
Not sure where time has gone, but I do remember how this longing began
and how in the weeks after the first one left for college
I'd go to set the table and my hand would automatically make that "five plate grab"
only to realize she was not coming.

One by one they took turns leaving and coming back . . .
eventually moving out and then coming back to visit . . . with additions.
If we'd all be together today, we'd be nineteen!
So it's my joy and blessing now to take the time on these special occasions,
even with some still missing, to arrange flowers, color eggs, fold napkins and
even with some still missing, to arrange flowers, color eggs, fold napkins and
take time to fashion crudely made twig cross name tags . . .
Sunday afternoon, while dinner was in the oven,
the kids looked for Easter treats.
In my family, growing up and with our kids,
my mom and dad prepared baskets and hid them.
So this is how it's done here, for now.

They each found their bag hidden in the garden and then spread out
on the patio to check out their loot!
I'm not a big candy girl myself, so I have fun looking for
what I think I'd like more.
Maybe some doll clothes,
a yo-yo
or a skipping rope?
Jade's thinking, "that's all good, but where's the candy?"
We found our seats around the table and everyone obliged me
for the photo before the food got passed from the buffet.
Dessert and facetime with some "far aways" followed the ham dinner.
Learning how quickly things can change,
I had a sudden inclination to ask for a four generation photo,
Here we see where the brown eyes come from.
After dinner, with the weather so nice,
the kids were drawn outside again ...
the kids were drawn outside again ...
a perfect way to finish off a family Easter.

A very special celebration! Love the 4 generation picture.
just love this post ...
family time together is so precious....
Love all the photos ...
the photo with your mom is the one that you will cherish for ever...
You captured the moments just beautifully! Love the four generation pic too.
Very charming. I love your innovative table settings.
We used nested German wooden Easter eggs, with some small delight or socks (why?...) in each one hidden here and there. The dog helped find, and could be counted on to get there first at least once.
The eggs reside in the closet now so it's a special treat to see your pix. Thank you.

This is all so beautiful Anneliese, your decorations, the church cookies, the paska, the lovely napkin crosses. You put so many thoughtful touches on your table. What a great idea to hide the Easter baskets. The pictures of Jade are so sweet and I love the five generation picture - sweet faces and brown eyes! You do family beautifully!

Thank you for sharing Easter photos, Mom.
In just 3 years I too may be sending our 1st born to college ...
Oh, Anneliese! Your easter celebration looks amazing. You must have prepared everything well before your holiday. I have much to learn from you regarding that! And that paska, looks terrific! Were you able to quickly make a fresh batch when you got home?
I love the picture of Jade!
It was just such a great evening to get acquainted in PS. Thank you for the lovely visit!
Lorrie, I'm so glad we could meet up! Such a spur of the moment visit! Thank you!
Happy belated birthday to you both! You inspired me to plan for ours.
Julene, I can't believe it! Three short years and the cycle repeats. =)
Thank you, everyone!
I'm still smiling at Jade looking for the candy! That girl is priceless! There is something about seeing children all dressed in their best in this setting that is nostalgic and I'm glad that some things are still done the way they used to be. Your table was beautiful too!
