Last week, while it was raining cats and dogs at home,
we were far away in a quiet and relaxing B & B across the ocean.
This was the same place we enjoyed two years ago.
We woke up late to the sound of breakfast quietly being served
on the patio below us.
and went down to eat with this view beside our table.
After breakfast we walked a couple of blocks toward this gorgeous beach.
The sand and the tide coming and going
have a way of reminding us of the beauty of creation,
God's faithfulness
and things that stay the same.
This photo was taken on our anniversary.
During the day I read ...
he read and continued to take calls.
This is a time in life when we often talk about how to get to the next stage.
It seems, over the years business has become more time consuming -
more so than when we were raising kids -
culminating into the big questions on how to slow down.
It's a "new to us" season in life ...
further along than the empty nest season.
and walks back to our room ...
allowed us to realize that with all the changes in life,
we are still best friends.
And after all is said and done,
I hesitated to write this post because,
even as I'm once again back to the reality
of buckling little bodies into car seats
and cares about aging parents ...
things I can control and things I can't,
I know this could all be and sound like an unrealistic dream.

It's good to get away and be with the one you love. Many of our discussions these days involve how to move into the next stage of life and what that might look like. It is a surprisingly busy time, and waning energy doesn't help. May you rest on God's grace and strength.
Wow, what a beautiful location. We are having the same conversations, what's next? When do we slow down? Will we ever be able to slow down? Sometimes I can't believe we're at this stage of life... we don't feel this age!
So beautiful. Thankful for the two of you!
Hi Anneliese; I read your blog regularly and always feel that there is a hint of negativity. My husband and I are similar in age to you and a year ago we were looking forward to retirement but my husband passed away suddenly after a brief illness. Treasure what you have and try not to dwell on your mother and her situation etc.
Sharon, I am so sorry to read that you lost your husband... much too early! I know the loss helps you see things from a different perspective. I often think of my sister-in-law who lost her hubby at a young age and I do not want to take the blessing of doing life together at this stage for granted. How can I address this "always negativity"? Your comment surprises me because I look at my posts and feel like my life must look like everything is perfect. It could be that the combination of experiencing so much to be thankful for and knowing it can be fleeting, makes the sentimental side of me sound negative while my desire is not to be assuming or boastful. If my gratefulness does not come through in my writing, I am not using the right words.
Anneliese, I always appreciate your posts very much and do not see negativity at all. I have felt that you are very grateful for the life you have and your posts touch me greatly. I think it is helpful for other people possibly going through similar experiences and that they find it encouraging.
What a beautiful post and wonderful get-away. I love that you and your H are still in love and best friends as you go through these seasons of your lives. We, over here, too have been putting much thought in to what our next steps might be. I never ever sense any negativity in your thoughtful, gracious and loving words! You are such an inspiration in every way.
What a beautiful getaway for a wonderful couple! So glad you were able to get away and celebrate!!(And I don't think your blog has negativity at all...real, yes, but that is life!)
Such beautiful memories of your time away...alone and together...just you two! It is the perfect time and place for celebrating all the years behind you, and to 'talk' about what lies ahead. I appreciate your blog posts for speaking to the reality of life, both those things that should be celebrated as well as the hard things you (we all) face.
I always look forward to your posts and love your perspective on life. Please don't take the "negativity" comment personally. What a beautiful relationship you and your husband have, and it's a great example for your children and grands.
What a beautiful post.... I love your willingness to share your world... the good, and the difficult.
I love your posts. You share your joys and sorrows in a real way. It's like talking to a friend. Your love of the Lord is inspiring.
It's so beautiful to see how you enjoy life as a couple who is still so young at heart and yet are wisely considering how to slow down. It's so good to celebrate your marriage and the blessings.
Hi Anneliese. I thank you for sharing your vacation and your thoughts with us. I always benefit.
Sharon
