"Mother's Day weekend," you always said
"is the best time to get the flower pots done."
... and it became a date,
precious time spent watching and doing.
Reasons why I cannot help but think of you now
as I move soil around to stuff a geranium
or
as I roll pastry, chop apples, peel peaches,
pour hot jam into jars
and cook frosting just like yours.
How is it that I can miss you so - while you're still here?
That sparkle in your eyes, the energy,
the sympathetic ear,
the call to come for supper - or just to talk.
It's a mystery enshrouded in hindsight,
the last time you cut dough patches,
pinched a Perishky,
or glazed a cookie.
The last time you set the table,
poured a cup of coffee
and dished out blueberry pie.
The last time you left a message,
words spilling over each other, starting with
"Anneliese, this is mom ..."
The last time you left a message,
words spilling over each other, starting with
"Anneliese, this is mom ..."
The last time you fixed your hair,
put on a necklace, chose your shoes
and walked out the door.
Days gone by, remembered now
with pride for the Mom you've been,
reminding me of who you are
and to cherish the hug I can give you ...
still knowing your warm embrace
and the feeling of being loved.
I love you, Mom.

You have me in tears. What beautiful memory photos you have shared and more that you hold in your heart. I never had to walk 'the loss of a parent as we knew them once while they are still living'. You have always cherished your mom and today you continue to cherish her, and bring her honour and dignity. Your sadness is real and I know you would long for her to be whole in body and mind. One day that again will be and you and her will rejoice more than ever. Till then, may God's grace be sufficient and HIs comfort be your strength. I knew your mom a wee bit...lovely lady. I see you in her:)
Oh Anneliese, you really captured so much raw beauty in this post. A beautiful tribute and reality you lived and are living through. Hugs...
These are beautiful words, Anneliese, that come from a heart that aches and longs to understand, yet continues to trust God for each moment.
So beautiful!! Tears .....
Beautiful and compassionate, thank you, Anneliese. Happy Mother's Day.
Very poignant!
So beautiful! I see your Mom in you so often. The most beautiful smiles and the kindest gestures, the authenticity that makes one respected and valued. The best parts of our Mom's are the parts that are missed the most.
Beautiful--brought tears to my eyes. Ann
