Thanksgiving

Between trips to the hospital, I set the table for my siblings.
It was the fist time I used mom's tablecloth ... still laundered and pressed by her hand ...
and one that I always admired on her table.

It was also the first time my brother brought his significant other.
We all went to see mom at the home -
she was full of smiles.

We had gathered our own family on the weekend before -
a blissful time of simple appys and chatting at the counter
while kids colored.
We also had a special guest for her first Thanksgiving dinner.

I split the photos because there was no good photo of us all together.
Someone always seems to be hiding somehow.

These smiles cause me to give thanks all over again
for the joy of family here and
family who would love to be.

One of my favorite pictures is one only in my memory
captured as we stood at the kitchen sink window ...
the evening fading away ...
lights twinkling on the maple starting to lose its leaves ...
big boys, little boys, girls and exchange student kicking a soccer ball
in the light drizzle in the back yard ...

and the joy and laughter
of coming in wet for dessert.

What a great celebration of all you have to be thankful for! I know what you mean about photos, there are so many of us now that I rarely get a good "frame" of every face. I've decided instead of fretting about it (which is my habit) to just go with what I get! Hoping I'll know in the future whose shoulder or arm or whatever is lurking behind someone else's face! hahaha

Gorgeous pictures of your Thanksgiving with family and siblings! Such lovely memory making times and the fact that you used your mom's table cloth. It's beautiful. I think your exchange student sure knew how to pick a fabulous family to stay with. I love the image you painted in front of the kitchen sink - the best of times! Take care as you walk this journey with your mom and as you remember the good times with her dear Abe! Hugs ...

The tablecloth is beautiful! I can’t say it ever caught my attention at mom’s. I remember telling dad once that when he came to my house we wouldn’t be using tablecloths. Times have changed and I love tablecloths and china.

I just realized that I had missed this post...a beautiful Thanksgiving re-cap! How special..to be able to use your mom's lovely tablecloth as your siblings gathered there. Wonderful memories of Thanksgiving 2018...despite the tough things you were dealing with.
