This is my view from my kitchen eating area into the family room ...
and I want to share some small tweaks that came about over the past few weeks.
Maybe I should have taken some before pictures, but
I was just too eager to replace the old(er).
The family photo we had over the mantle was outdated, with three kids missing,
so I'd been thinking of getting a wall verse.
My only fear was that putting this light colored art on the dark painted wall
would look too stark,
but once I added the wreath with the dark berries
but once I added the wreath with the dark berries
and scattered an assortment of light colored cushions
on the dark couches ... it felt good.
This may sound easier than it is, but it took me several tries.
(It's a good thing stores are good with returns)
Marrying the colors and styles of an old home with updated accents
is harder than starting with a clean slate,
but it is still a fun challenge.

A couple of plants made their way into my grocery cart
and they were just what was needed for color.
For perspective ... the black cabinet is right behind the couch.
The huge clock in our eating area was added last year,
via a Hobby Lobby gift card for my birthday.
This was the beginning of a switch in wall decor.
And the plaque ...
well if it gets you singing it has fulfilled it's purpose.

I love it! You are so good at tying it all together. The pastor spoke about Jeremiah 29:11 yesterday...the most popular verse on Bible Gateway last year.
Lovely. From time to time I think accessories need refreshing. They can make a room seem more dated than the furniture. I’m considering “downsizing “ the number of cushions on my couch. I think that style may be phasing out. #husband is thrilled! You have great style.
Your family room looks fabulous - very inviting and cozy. You do have a great style. And I love the wall verse--what a wonderful promise.

It looks great, Anneliese! The dark and the light colors are complimentary and add dimension to the room. Very cozy and inviting...
Wonderful tweaks. A very pleasant and comfortable look. When I first read the title of your post I thought of accents like, Russian, or English, or Irish, or Scottish. I love listening to accents, too. :)
Love those verses and the way you are refreshing your rooms. Plants are what we all crave for a bit of indoor greenery and life these days. I've seen a couple of other bloggers adding new plants to their decor. Love the containers you've chosen for them, too.
Your accents are stunning Anneliese! Love, love your style! Now you have my soul singing - what a great plaque. I may have to steal some of your ideas here.
Thank you all, dear blogger friends, for your kind words. It would be so great to be able to have cake and coffee together in person!
Beautiful, simply beautiful. I'm also quite partial to that verse :)
I really do need your help in my house!! Not only does it need updating but some walls are still bare from when we moved in over 6 years ago!! Your home is always so beautiful with every touch exactly right!
