One Year in our New Home

I can hardly believe a year has gone by ...
a year like no other, for many reasons.
One would wonder if it feels like home yet and, yes,
there are times I still feel like I'm on vacation here.
Not really a bad thing.
I heard this week from friends who also moved and
they noted that a home only feels like home once you've made memories in it.
Something harder to do when socializing is limited.

I remember not wanting to wait to have friends over last year,
and I have been so thankful for the ones we squeezed in before we had to stop.
Making shared memories is a big part,
at least for us, to make it feel like home.
Family has been about for the most part and that has helped.

New to our visitor list are the deer!
Last year I was so frustrated about my first buds being chewed off,
but this year, with some extra care, they have not done too much damage yet.
We put lupine seeds into the ground last year
and I think we'll have them for good now.
This year they came back in full force, with many blooms on them!

I love the color combinations
and it's been fun to bring them inside as well.
When I think about this past year,
I can compare it to just that - the planting of seeds
that will produce in due time.
While I've been in a waiting room of sorts,
preparing, hoping and wishing to share our life and our home;
it's also been an unplanned way to rest
and to truly appreciate our new space and season in life.

We are in the process of building a new house. I'm so eager to get into it and start this next phase of our lives. Although it's difficult to decide what to part with and what to keep, one of the things I'm most excited about is downsizing! The new house is 800 sq. ft. smaller than this one. Your garden is just gorgeous!

With the new easing of restrictions we're planning to host each of our children and their children indoors! On separate occasions since we're still restricted to one other household. Little by little we're getting there. Your lupins are amazing!

Vicki, at first I thought you said that your new house woud be 800 sq feet! I imagined a very small house! Haha! It's always good to re-read. You will still have room for your grands to come for visits. =) It is such a good feeling to go through everything and purge. Even though our square footage is the same as the old house (reconfigured, with less bedrooms and more eating, familyroom space)I got rid of so much stuff! I pretty well sorted as though we were moving into a smaller space, and it felt so good!

For everything a season! It's been so fun to see your new home take shape...from the planning through to completion and then to all the 'housewarming' this past year. And your amazing gardens! Love the lupines.

Everything looks just wonderful over there, including that cute little garden helper! It has been a year like no other indeed. Oh the gatherings there will be soon - making those forever memories. Hugs ...

And I'm hoping that someday we'll be able to see your new home in person.
