This is the view out of Julene's kitchen window . . . the playground that Papa had a big part in building when we were here in 2005. The men used local ironwood, which is supposed to last for 100 years even in water. It is used for docks in the waterfronts.

This time around the kids were promised a teeter totter. We packed the seats and handles (donated by our local school facilities/grounds at home). The groundbreaking was very exciting!

Daddy and Papa went to shop for the remaining materials here in town and went to work . . . cutting, welding, drilling and painting.

While this was going on, the work on the basketball court also began. Digging up the lawn, putting in re-bar and pouring a concrete pad. I think the neighbors thought we were crazy!

The men figured out a way to build an adjustable basketball hoop. So good!!!!

These Canadian grandkids may not learn to play hockey in Indonesia, but they will learn to shoot a basketball.

A playground to be envied...for sure! And how lucky for them to have a teeter-totter...you rarely see them in playgrounds anymore. And a basketball hoop that grows with your grands is perfect.
Wow, that is seriously amazing!! Great work guys! I also noticed a trampoline in the photo - did they get this in Indonesia?! With a yard like that, no wonder all the neighborhood kids are there playing all the time :) What a treat.
Love, Bonnie
Good practice and skill building for future grandchildren I would say! The playground looks amazing...but such hard work...lucky kids!
Basketball is almost as good as hockey, cause it was invented here, believe it or not!
What a huge backyard!! That's so wonderful you can fill it with a playground trampoline (it looks like Costco's? How did you manage to get that to Indonesia?!) and now basketball court! Awesome!
Great work Chris and Mr. F. :)
It was many years back when I was in Indonesia, and I too remember my Papa making a well for the locals. He couldn't handle watching the women carry buckets of water....
Blessings to all of you and yes there's nothing like Ironwood.
We managed to obtain some for those long-surviving projects.
Anneliese, this is a missions trip for you . ..with a purpose. What a wonderful and satisfying endeavour for Papa ..
I was reminded of how we have been shown the new playground right outside the American Presidents work window.. .all children love to play no matter where they live. The difference is this one was built with love.
It is so beautiful there! You two are the kind of grandparents (a long time from now - ha ha) Nathan and I want to be. Thanks for being a great example.
the playground looks SO great! They must get a TON of traffic in their backyard from the neighborhood kids. Do they have it all fenced in so it doesn't get vandalized at night? Hope it's okay! Good job in helping get it all done you guys!
Wow!! What an amazing backyard with so many things to play with! Your grandkids are blessed to have a Daddy and Papa that are so handy with tools!(not something to be taken for granted)
