I also went down into our basement and found and old tucked-away school project, dating back to my high school days. For this particular English assignment we were asked to combine some artistic element with a poetry theme of our choice. My theme ended up being, "I Believe in God." The reason I wanted to check out this project now, was to find a specific poem I knew was in there . . . a poem that obviously said something to me as a 16 or 17 year old. It was written by Marcie Hans, probably sometime soon after man landed on the moon.FUELED
Fueled
By a million
Man-made
wings of fire -
The rocket tore a tunnel
Through the sky -
and everybody cheered.
Fueled
only by a thought from God -
The seedling
Urged its way
Through the thickness of black -
And as it pierced
The heavy ceiling of the soil -
And launched itself
Up into outer space -
No
One
Even
Clapped.
Marcie Hans
So, at the end of my project there are 39 comments, mostly positive - but varying , from "It's alright if you believe in god!" or "Jesus freak huh" to "A truly moving project" and "This is too good, the best I've seen."
These signed comments bring back images of faces long forgotten. It's been at least 35 years . . . and I wonder where they are today. Have they all had the chance to see God do something in their lives . . . something that has shown them that He is real? I would wish so.

Love this post Anneliese. The poem is great with that photo. I too have enjoyed walking about the yard and seeing Spring spring forth. I've wondered about my high school friends and where they stand with God and have had some fun discoveries on Facebook and at a recent reunion about a few of them coming to the Lord! Have a good week...
Such a great poem! Thank you for digging through the old notebooks to share it with us today.
It was great to attend my 20th class reunion and discover how many classmates now know the Lord.
love the photos and the poem. thanks for sharing it today!
Anneliese. .the poem is so relevant for this time of year and also for this time in the world. I love that you had conviction even back then to say what was in your heart. You were and still are a woman who inspires!
How brave of you to put your convictions on paper for all to see...even as a teen. And how special to still have that project...complete with the poem comments from classmates.
Keep sharing from your heart...you never know whose life is touched.
It is so worthwhile to keep these kind of assignments. I once wrote a journal of my trip to Indonesia...I threw it out after we moved to this place about 20 years...I so regret that.
But I love it when we dig deep into those boxes and find things to share with each other with meaning.
That is an amazing poem. Thanks for your thoughts around this.
Anneliese, I'm writing this with a tear in my eye...
What a great assignment from your teacher ~ and at 16, what great insight and awareness of the Creator you had.
{In a way, your teacher had everyone 'blog' their projects}
How fortunate we are to have you share your heart and your wonderful insights with all of us. *Thank You*

I love how you capture life. Finding a poem tucked away from years gone by,,,to use today. Fitting! Sharing your love or the Creator of all things.
I love this collage of pictures and the poem, Mom. So beautiful!
Thanks for sharing Anneliese..I too wonder where my classmates of many years ago are and if they are walking with the Lord today??
I love your signs of spring..here they are still slow in coming. I've noticed that the geese are back!
