A New Start

One day we will look back at this year as the year that our American grandkids moved to Canada.

Last week Kristal flew into Vancouver with all three kids.

. . . I doubt that they really knew how momentous this trip was . . .

but still . . .

. . their faces looked like they knew.

Tim Hortons has been a first stop for international home-comings in the past . . .

the kids were thirsty . . .

 and hungry.

Shaun came the next day with all of their earthly possessions.  It was a  surreal sight to behold the truck in front of our house . . . surely looked more serious than a few suitcases and, given the work it has been for them to make this happen, I don't think I've ever been so happy to see a U-haul truck cross that border.

Shaun and Kristal . . . we know that the place you met and began your journey together will always have  a special place in your heart.
It will still be "home" to you  in many ways.
But our prayer is that one day you will look back at this move as having been a good decision . . .
a part of Gods' perfect plan for your lives.
We welcome you with open arms to . . . the true north strong and free . . . the home of the Canucks . . . and the maple leaf.
The place where where you can get caught up with bilingual packaging instructions  and we talk about toques, skidoos, runners, washrooms, soothers, loonies, toonies and timbits.
If that is not enough . . .  closer to home . . . the place where cousins and family gatherings abound. Where you will hear words such as Paske, Rollkuchen and Perishkie . . . and can we go to Papa and Mimi's for Faspa?
May the differences greet you with a smile and may God give you courage, strength and joy in your new start.

What a heart felt welcome your words spoke to your kids. HOME....may it be a very sweet place for them. Think of this.....you will be able to go to your daughter's place for lunch or supper....or just call her up for a coffee at the mall....a trip to the park to run with the kids.....oh the joys...and the realities of life.

I love this post. I echo the blessing/prayer for your children. I know there will be adjustments but may the blessings far outweigh the speedbumps they may encounter along the way.

This post brought tears to my eyes for many reasons. For the excitement of grandparents having their loved ones so near, for the grown daughter & grandchildren whose mom & Mimi are just 'down the road'and for the wonderful words you share for Shawn & Kristal. May you all transition well as you journey down this road together.

What a wonderful day for you! And what a welcome. Living so close to the border, we get to visit the 'true north' often. There is a richness about the heritage you will share with your grandchildren. Blessings to you all!

Best wishes to Kristal and family in your new start!

I had to laugh at the collection of Canadian words...the only one I recognized was "washroom." Maybe you should do a post someday on common words used in Canada that aren't so common in the US! :-)

this post made me cry. putting myself in kristal's shoes gives me mixed emotions....glad that i don't have to go through all of the packing and paperwork and re-adjusting, but sad that my kids will never know what its like to grow up in canada. but most of all, i'm just happy for all of you :)
