After a quick breakfast we got on the subway . . . an experience that can be quite entertaining on it's own!
At the end of the line . . . at Ground Zero, we saw the construction going on in full force. It is hard to fathom what happened here ten years ago . . . and how it has changed all of our lives to some extent.
We took a ferry tour around Manhattan . . . past Ellis Island. . . . once known as The Gateway to America! A reminder of what it was like when immigrants came to this country with hope of new opportunities and dreams to follow.
For lunch we stopped by a hot dog stand
and enjoyed it on a large patio area, alongside a busy street, under the trees . . . where a uniformed person appeared out of nowhere to tell me to get off a low ledge I was using to take photos of birds. I had no idea.
We looked for the tallest building . . . and found it. Then stood in line for over an hour to take the elevator . . .
to take photos of the view from the top . . .
and two crazy girls . . . with security always close at hand!

Looks fun!!!
What kind of ledge were you standing on that you were asked to get off???
I am so enjoying your trip to NYC. I guess here in the US now we're very cautious about picture-taking tourists. Probably too cautious!
Awesome trip to NYC! Love hearing about your little incidents with security! :-)
Great fun for you both! I'd rather see one too many security, than not enough, eh!!
Kelly... this one was a low retaining wall ... maybe two feet tall, under the trees, bordering the outdoor patio.
Karin... you are right... security is good!!
Great photos and perspective Anneliese. Looked like a very interesting subway ride! Is it wrong to be wanting a hotdog for breakfast now...? :0)
I've enjoyed all your posts from your trip - great photos! The hotel room looks, well....adequate! The photos of Lancaster County took me back to a time early in our marriage when we lived very near there and spent many wonderful hours in surroundings such as you picture.
That hot dog cart - so like the carts in every TV series set in NYC!
your trip news is always amazing and you are shining as a photographer during this photo journalling....what fun!
Ohhh...a man on a seer sucker suit. In NYC! Please let this be a sign of more such sights world wide.
Sounds like the trip of a life...Thank goodness you had your security so close...
I can't imagine them taking their eyes off of you....
Those two crazy girls had way too much fun! Wish we had been there too.
