Wake Up Call

This morning, before 7:30, a doorbell shattered my sleep on the comfy king size bed. Because the chime sounded just like ours at home, it took me a moment to get orientated. Luckily he was up to get the door. It was the neighbor letting us know what the commotion outside was about. We did not bother telling her that the doorbell was the first commotion we heard. She was very friendly.

He was leaving on his run, so I decided to go for my walk. That is when we saw what was happening. She had called a Crane Co. to uproot a number of palm trees on her property.

Palm trees are part of the natural beauty here. She was out there telling us that they cost about $60 a foot. So she, being on the landscaping committee, had decided to move her trees to another part of the complex. Did she sell them?

Several trees had already been lifted onto the flatbed truck, ready to be hauled off, while a few lay spread out on the street to be picked up on another run.

We watched a small grouping of two trees being lifted onto another truck and continued on our way around the complex . . . me distracted with more photo opportunities and him going around several times, passing me.

At one point we saw the crane ready to deposit the deliverd trees in a spot that was prepared for them. All in a day's work of a shrewd businesswoman.

Hmmmmm. What is it about you and trees in the front yard being cut down or moved - lol. Enjoy your holiday, it looks wonderful there.

It always amazes me how small the palm tree roots are. Maybe it's a good thing that the palm trees are being moved away from your area...one wind storm and...BAM you might have more than a neighbor at your front door waking you up!

I'm thinking how they transport and move trees all over the Hawaiian Islands because they can be rebooted so quickly. They actually buy stacks of palm trees from CA and transport them to the Hawaiian Islands.
Check to see if you can have them transported to BC.

I had no idea that moving trees could look so easy! Hope you are enjoying your stay - in spite of early wake up calls!

Oh...that's funny! A shrewd business woman indeed...selling her trees and leaving the maintenance bills to the next door neighbour.

We were rudely awakened this morning as well...by fire alarms and a message telling us to vacate the hotel immediately. All's well that ends well:)

Only a blogger!....I had to laugh at the way you got the most out of that unique palm-tree-moving experience...and at how interesting I found it!
