Happy Canada Day Weekend!

My earliest recollection of Queen Elizabeth II is one of seeing her portrait in my classroom when I was ten, the year I came to Canada. It was very much like this one I found, surprised by how young she looks, looking back now. More than forty years have gone by and I'm somewhat in awe of the fact that this year we commemorate 60 years of her majesty the Queen's reign.

British singer-songwriter, Gary Barlow and composer Andrew Looyd Webber recorded a song written in honor of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Featured are The Military Wives Choir with Gareth Malone and artists from around the Commonwealth. The way they worked together is amazing!
Watching it made me proud and emotionally thankful to be part of not only our nation, but a nation having a commonality with such diverse cultures and so beautiful as a whole!

I invite you to open it in full screen, sit back and enjoy a taste of heaven . . .

Wishing one and all a Happy Canada Day Weekend and a Happy 4th of July coming up for our neighbors across the line!

Happy Canada Day to you as well. I also remember the same picture of the queen in the classroom and wonder how many times I sat staring at it instead of doing my arithmetic.
I'll listen to the video later...thanks for sharing.

Happy Canada Day! I have enjoyed watching all the festivities for the Queen's Jubilee and am so impressed by her. I am sad that the video is blocked in our country by UMG because of copyright laws. I went to YouTube and saw other recordings of the military wives' choir, but not this special song. I'm bummed!

That's the way I remember the Queen as well - so young and so beautiful on every classroom wall through my childhood. I also remember when she opened Parliament in the later 50's. We didn't have TV, so someone must have invited us over to watch. I was very small and recall that someone said 'she's wearing her coronation gown'. I heard 'carnation gown' and wondered how she managed to be in a milk dress.
The silly things we remember!
Happy Canada Day!

This picture hung in our classrooms as well. My talented sister even painted a portrait of the queen which my mother loved! I can remember the queen and prince coming to Stratford to open the festival theatre that is also celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year. There's that number 60 again!!!!

Happy Canada Day to you all. Glad to be sharing our Queen and her Jubilee year with you all in Canada - it does us good in the UK to remember that she is Queen in other dominions too.

My younger DD downloaded the music for "Sing" from a website last night, and has been teaching herself to play it on the piano, so we are enjoying hearing it quite a lot here this weekend - but we love it!

Having bought the Cookbook, I love the recipes, and I am still garnering more from the website each week - and I am so grateful that there are gluten-free contributions sometimes, so that I can enjoy them too.

Blessings from the UK xx

Thanks so much for posting that video. It is amazing. We were in London on the weekend of the Diamond Jubilee and were able to join in the celebrations. We watched the concert in a small pub near our hotel with many locals. What fun. Even managed to see the Queen on her barge on the Thames.
