For the Season

I picked through my clothes closet again with the hope of sharing a few favorites to mix and match into a cooler weather wardrobe. In reality, this is not a waste of time because realizing what combinations are hidden in your closet can be an encouraging eye opener and save time on a day when you just don't have time to think.
One of my newest favorites is a pair of leather boots I picked up on clearance at Target. They are comfortable, casual and go with almost anything.
In my possession is also an older black pair that are not as versatile and, to tell the truth, sometimes I feel like a Mini Mouse wearing them, but I keep hoping they look better than they feel. Ha ha.
The second item to check off the list, is a few of pairs of tights or leggings in various shades and textures , if you like. Tights lend themselves to a warmer, more casual look with wool - like skirts and sweater dresses. I love that they come in so many shades, but my personal opinion is that one has to be careful that the color is not overpowering, but blends in with the rest of the outfit. You want to notice the skirt, dress or top before you  notice the color of the legs. The tights can be the same color as the sweater to balance out a color.
One classic neutral or plaid skirt that goes with many different tops can give you many options to dress up or down. An old skirt can feel new with a new top.

No need to purchase an eternity scarf. Pick out your favorite old scarf and tie the ends together. Pull it over your head, twist and pull it over once or twice again. Bring the knot to the front and tuck it in or let it show.
A larger type of sweater to throw on is great for when you have to run out quick.

and an endless assortment of cardigans.
Oh my . . . these are my weakness!
The hardest to get rid of because you never know when you will need just the one.
You may as well call me Mrs. Rogers. I can never have too many of these!

And the classic basic  . . .  a good pair of jeans ... again easy to dress up or be casual.

And here you have a few ideas put together with a pair of jeans, a skirt and five sweaters . . .
thanks to a beautiful Fall day and my grinning and able photographer!

So . . . I've probably said this before, but go ahead and take an hour to check out your closet. Get rid of what you really do not like, because you won't wear it. Try on a few combinations . . .  try them with different shoes or boots, sweaters and scarves.
See what is missing and make a mental note or, if your memory has become a sieve like mine, a written list is good to keep from buying what you don't need.
Just knowing that there are possibilities in my de-cluttered closet, keeps me from the urge to browse the mall. And that's a good thing.  Maybe that's why he does not mind playing his part. There are photos . . . for when I don't have a thing to wear.

Lovely combos Anneliese. I'm going to need way more than an hour to clean out my closet! I think I'll save that job for January!

I love when you do this too Anneliese - I'm no good at thinking of outfits myself- but I know what I like when I see it on others. And I like your style!! Thanks for the scarf tip too.

I love these posts Anneliese!! You have a wonderful sense of fashion and look gorgeous! I have tried to sort out my closet - it works for the most part, but I'll have to keep practicing. I always think, if only I could lose a few more lbs. things would fit better - sigh! Thanks for the encouragement.

I need this little push to get at my closet, which is presently hovering between two seasons. This means that dressing for work takes altogether too long in the morning. I love how you've put things together.

You are so fantastic at doing this. I love them and look forward to the new seasons look. You have such a well balanced figure...and that helps. You look beautiful.

I thoroughly enjoyed this post. I find it a bit challenging to figure out age appropriate fashion. You do it so well and look so pretty.
I'm wondering if you have found a brand of jeans that fit well?
You have inspired me to go through my closet with a fresh eye.

Annaliese - you and I could easily be shopping buddies... your style and mine are identical ! It is uncanny how many times I read your post and find myself drawn in kinship to the way your mind processes, worships, honors, enjoys and encourages! I check your blog each day to get a touch of my online kindred spirit!

Cute, lovable and adorable Anneliese. You have the perfect eye to just pull those articles together....great trendy ideas to share. Now, if you could just come over and give me a hand.

Just finished the seasonal closet switch last month! I agree; do a test run for outfits and switch up the combos. Figuring out the jewelry/scarf/layer is such fun. Truth be told, when I am not reporting to a work place or church my wardrobe is pretty much a black turtle neck, jeans and a hoodie every day!

Boots...I have three. Two have heels and lately I have come to enjoy wearing higher heels much to the chagrin of my shortie friends who try to gain height via super high heels. Heels put me at about 6 ft tall...and I make a point of standing up really straight when I wear them!

You do this so well, Anneliese! I can use all the help I can get in that department. My closet needs a good de-cluttering once I'm back home. Tell the photographer he does a fine job as well:)

I always enjoy your change of the season wardrobe posts. Love your choices and you know how to wear what looks great on you. Cute boots from Target.

So, when are you coming to my house? I need all the help I can get. My closets are organized, nothing in there I don't like, but I'm at a place where everything everyone else wears looks infinitely better on them than my stuff does on me. My fashion sense left quite a few years ago, lol!!!

You look great and everything looks lovely on you!

well girls... if you want your ego boosted just do a photo shoot. I feel like the blog world is just the most compimentary place there is! Thank you for not laughing ...
it is always kind of scary to put yourself out there. The last thing I want to do is to come across like I'm an expert.
Sheila ... and each one of you ... thank you for your comments.
Happy@Home, the jeans I'm wearing are straight cut Banana Republic, about $55, which I would mostly wear with a longer style top and boots. I still really like jeans with a little flare (bootcut) with a cozy turtleneck or plain Tshirt...
Some of you are way too hard on yourself. Ask someone you trust for some input on what looks best on you.... but also remember the best accessory is your smile and a thankful heart for the many blessings money can't buy.

Kind regards,

You are gifted in the kitchen and the fashion world. Great combination in my book. I like how you put it all together, and I think you look like you would do well to model in anyone of the magazines I received in the mail lately.
