The oldest ornament hanging on my tree is an angel my grandmother gave me when I was about five years old. At the time, we were living in Uruguay. She followed us to Brazil and then to Canada.
I mention the moves, because as a young girl, I had to leave behind anything that would take up too much room . . . leaving me with just a few tiny mementos. This is one that's always gotten tucked into a box somewhere along the line.
She is the same on both sides.
Maybe that angel was the start . . . or maybe it was my grandmother's fascination with Victorian cards that had me purchase a set of these angels, about twenty years ago. I love the German verse printed on them.
Although I have changed up the decor on the tree over the years,
there are a few sentimental pieces that I keep putting up.
Angels will always fit into the Christmas story.

I have an angel like that... I knew it was from when we lived in SA but I didn't know when or where or from who. Thanks! I wondered about it for some reason this year as I put it on my tree.
Those ornaments from long ago are my favourite ones on the tree. How fortunate that you have this memory of your past to cherish each year. BTW, I love your header!
I was surprised to see the two cardboard angels - I inherited the very same ones from my mother in law and I always wondered how old they might be. The most special ornaments, to me, are those attached to precious memories.
Love your angels, Anneliese...
Beautiful momentos and pictures!
Wonderful memories...of Christmas so long ago. Beautiful angels.
As a tribute to the many angels in my life and in scripture I have made my tree theme angels. Have you ever wondered why they are almost never represented in a masculine version?
Sultana, that is a good question. I know that in the Bible angels are presented as men, so I don't know why the artists' renditions are usually feminine.
Sweet! Many of our ornaments are attached to memories...trips,gifts from special people, ones made by me or our children, etc. It makes decorating the tree so much sweeter!
