Jesus Calling

A little book that was gifted to me for Christmas, has quickly become very special to me. Simply titled, Jesus Calling, Sarah Young has prayerfully recorded daily readings that invite the reader into time spent listening to God's voice.

The author gives credit to the integrity of Francis Schaeffer's teaching that drew her, in her search for truth, to an Alpine Village in France. It was there, in the pristine beauty of nature that she first felt the presence of God and His call on her life. Relating to her holy experience, she writes, "This was far more than the intellectual answers for which I'd been searching. This was a relationship with the Creator of the universe."

The readings in this little book are reflections of, what to her has been life changing, a verse found in Psalm 46:10,  "Be still and know that I am God."
We have an invitation to relax, lay down our cares and seek His guidance and ultimate peace. Daily readings are short, spoken from Jesus' point of view to the reader. Every reading is followed by scripture to look up, to support and solidify what has just been read.

Whether my life portrays an easy spontaneous giving of thanks or a measured, disciplined act of the will - trusting the hand I do not see - I'm encouraged to realize that God inhabits the praises of His people. Maybe it's just where I'm at right now . . . but I'm loving the intimacy of reading "the voice of Jesus" calling me to trust His plans . . . plans not to harm me, but to give me hope and a future."

His plans are perfect. Taking That unseen hand....we are safe knowing He knows the pathway ahead step by step. I'm also enjoying a new daily devotional this year.

Being still before God is a concept so foreign to our lifestyle of being busy and productive. But so necessary for a deep relationship with our Lord.

I received this book last year for Christmas and have thoroughly enjoyed it. So many of her thoughts touched my heart, and I liked that the words were spoken from Jesus' point of view.

I love when you do "book reviews" Anneliese. This looks like a good devotional book. Thanks for sharing this. What a perfect time to begin reading a daily devotional!

I must get that book - I've heard about it and a few friends are reading it right now. Roger and I also spent several months at L'Abri back in 1979 - it was a life-changing experience in an incredibly beautiful setting.

I, like you, received "Jesus Calling" as a gift several years ago from our Sunday School Class.
What a Blessing it has been. And You know, it seems to be exactly where I am on so many days. Thank You for your insights. I am new to reading blogs and am amazed and thrilled to see how many "Women of God" there are out there willing to take the time to share their life journeys with the rest of us.
I Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.NIV
Thank You for being obedient to HIS urgings.

This is our favorite devotional book ever! Both my husband and I read it every day and always share the insights we glean from it. My friends are reading it too. Sarah shares the reality of the Bible and our God, in such a simple yet powerful way. You shared it beautifully!

I've been visiting from South Carolina and enjoy your writings, but above all, thank you for sharing about this little book. After reading your post, I saw the book at our local Sam's Club. Being particular about what I read for a devotional, Sarah's writing drew me in, coupled with your thoughts in the back of my mind, and immediately the book was purchased. I needed this devotional at this time of my life. Thank you for 'talking' about it and sharing it with us.
