One of the things I love about this house is the laundry chute
going from our bedroom closet down into a cupboard in the laundry room underneath.
I like it almost as much as the grands do!
Why else would they come up to the bedroom and ask if I have something
to throw in the wash?
One day they were playing and throwing things down as I was changing the bed,
when I suddenly realized the voice of Paeton went from being right there to sounding rather distant.
Wouldn't you know it?
He had gone down the chute!
(I'm assuming he thought it would be easier to ask forgiveness than permission.)
While the little girl inside of me was happy to know it was possible,
I had to make sure this experiment was done!
The other thing I love about this house is the wash line
just out the side door of the laundry room.
Taking in laundry from a wash line is old fashioned fun!
As is the chute.

How funny...when my kids were young, we lived in a first floor apt. that had a laundry chute to the basement that was ours...My two oldest tried to shove my youngest down the chute, but decided not to let his legs go, sending him to the cage at the end of the chute....Good thing they got him out...He was only two and the cage wasn't strong enough to hold a toddler going down, along with the clothes that were already in the cage...But, your story is great and one that brought back memories of my children's youth.
Love from NC
Laundry smells so wonderful coming off the line like that!!! I'd hate to be without a washline.
So funny about Paeton going down - what a great story.
How fun! We had a laundry chute in a house when I was a kid, but I was too scared to try going down it, even though I wanted to. Taking laundry down from a clothesline is so satisfying... especially the scent of the sun-dried clothes!
That is too funny about Paeton taking the chute down! Maybe I should put a line up so I can come to terms with all those diapers I had to hang on the line for my mom for my younger siblings and find joy in that great old fashioned way...
Oh my goodness, so glad that Paeton was okay! We too have a laundry chute but thankfully it is not very large so little bodies don't fit! However I did overhear the boys wondering one time if our cat would fit! :-)
Little ones think of everything. So glad it all turned out well.
I love the smell of line-dried clothes and linens, but alas, I have no clothesline here.
It made me laugh, but I'm sure your heart stopped! We never want our grands to get hurt on our watch!!
Having a washline ready in the backyard was a plus when we relocated recently. I'm all for old fashioned fun like hanging up laundry on it. You can be sure I scurried out to take it down when I heard thunder rumble this afternoon. Thankfully it was dry but didn't get placed carefully in the wash basket like usual. No old fashioned chute fun here though. Happy Paeton wasn't injured in his descent.
oh boy...I hope he thought to check first to make sure there was a soft landing. I love my clothesline and I don't need a laundry shoot so I'm a lucky girl.
Love the story.
There's nothing quite like laundry dried on a line! I'm smiling at Paeton's adventure. I think a laundry chute would be quite fun as well!
No laundry chute here but I do love hanging clothes out in the fresh country air!
I used to love the smell of clean laundry when my mom would pull it in. That laundry shoot story is one Paeton and you will tell for years....so funny.
I can almost smell the aroma of clean, line hung wash as I read your post. There isn't anything like it. As for the clothes chute, I have many memories of that, and yes, my brothers attempted the same thing.
Your blog post on clean, white tea towels continues to inspire me, even though it was quite a while ago.
I love the story of the chute. What little child could not resist that experience. Do you know that I have never had a wash line??? I love the fresh dried smells...but somehow I missed out.
