The Why and How

I've heard it said  that bloggers tend to make their lives look perfect.
I understand.
It's what we choose to focus on.
I believe that blogging gives me an avenue to practice
the discipline of looking for
things that inspire and things I'm thankful for.
My days certainly are not one glorious day after another -
from mundane to anxious moments
there's still the mammogram appointment,
the shower that needs cleaning,
the pile that needs sorting,
the broken toe, the sore back,
misunderstandings laying heavy on the heart,
events that make me nervous . . .
fear, uncertainty and loss to process.

Yesterday I went to see a friend for whom,
life recently came to an abrupt halt, due to cancer.
I'm sitting here, trying to work through the vision
of her whole being ebbing away
as she considers the values of this life growing strangely dim.
She told me she is ready to go,
but I wish I could have more time with her.
More time to weave our friendship through
the joy of sharing the stages of our life.
She had such zest and such a giving spirit -
how does one say good bye?
Feeling this pain, I know it's not what God intended when He made us.
As I left her side - tears streaming down my face,
she said goodbye, she said my name . . .
and in hearing that, sorrow gave way to the truth -
it's through our faith in what is yet to come.
That's how.

I will pray for your friend and for you...I have lost two good friends over the last three months...Dave, a dear pastor friend to brain cancer(preached his last sermon a week before he walked into the arms of Jesus, our precious Lord and Savior), and Sam who had a massive stroke.....I weep over them being gone, but joyful that they are both in the presence of the Lord and the hosts of Heaven....That is our Hope...

Keeping you in my prayers and knowing that God will comfort you and your friend. I sometimes take for granted the things in my life, but I thank God everyday for the simple blessings he gives to me. I have a friend who is in a nursing home and who all of her life has been a hard worker. It is difficult to see her there. I pray that she will keep her faith strong in the Lord. Love from Ohio

I'm sorry for your friend, but glad for her in having you.

This is a difficult topic to handle well on a blog post, swathed as it is in raw emotion and grief. You did it.

May your friendship give her solace.

I can so identify with a reason for blogging - makes you look on the positive side of things. My days are far, far from perfect! You have expressed so beautifully how hard it is to say good-bye to a dear friend and also no matter how hard it is, there is hope beyond death. I am so thankful that you blog Anneliese - you are such an inspiration to me and beyond! Huge hugs!

We blog for many of the same reasons.
I am sorry that you have had to say goodbye to a dear friend. There is no understanding, just accepting that we will meet again.

No, things are never really perfect, but we have the power to choose our response, don't we? I've had to work very hard over the years to overcome being negative, and so yes, my blog helps me look for the good.
So sorry about your friend.

So true! Your heart comes through your posts in a real way, and it always intrigues me the way you share emotion with us. I felt myself being right there with you and your friend. Someday, we won't have to say goodbyes.
I constantly process as to what, and how much to share via blogging. You shared your thoughts well, and I agree with what you said.
