Weekend Highlights

Friday's trip into downtown Vancouver started off on the wet side,
but we came prepared.

We parked close to the Ten Thousand Villages Store on Granville Island.

Their beautiful planter along the outside windows added to the fall display behind the glass inside.

Inside we felt the welcome we have experienced in other TTV stores . . .
from the paper aprons displayed on an invisible washline, to the pretty table and
little bites taken from recipes in the books for guests to sample.
On this touristy little Island we met people going and coming from as far as Australia.
We had to laugh, when at one time two women who did not know each other,
stood by the table and both told us about their identical twin sisters.

Our driver and navigator combo, Marg and Judy, took us to the ferry terminal and
onto the ferry heading to Victoria.

After an hour and a half ferry ride, we checked in at the hotel
and walked down to the harbor for dinner.

I was enjoying the vintage looking street lamps and tree-lined streets, when suddenly the Parliament Buildings came into view and made me gasp in awe.

We ate dinner at Milestones . . .

where we enjoyed the view and the company.

Walking back, we truly looked like tourists taking shots in the dark.

We passed many beautiful buildings,
but this one caught my eye in the evening as well as in the daytime.

I loved the way the flower planters hung in the top arches of the windows.

By surprise we also walked right by the TTV store

. . . all ready for the next day's signing event!
I considered buying one of those aprons, they were so cute!

Saturday's signing was a lot of fun!
Again there were dainty little squares and also some savory
dishes prepared . . . one of the staff even made Borscht for the first time. It was delicious.
I did not take a lot of pictures and when I did, I did not ask if I could post them.
The pretty gal here who was obviously not posing, is Lorrie.
Having been to her blog many times I felt like I knew her.
I'm sure there will be a photo of a group of us with her . . . one I do not have.
Another visitor who introduced herself . . . has the same name as I do. I have a great photo,
but I did not get her email, nor think of asking if I could post her photo.
She was very sweet and I could surely be friends with her!
Again there was traffic from a number of different states
and lots of fun, listening to the stories of those who visit the blog.
One dear woman could hardly talk and she had come a long way in the rain
to tell us she enjoyed the Bread for the Journey.
Pretty well brings tears to my eyes now.

We left Victoria feeling happy and blessed . . .
with only a few moments of angst . . .
one of which you may have read about on Kathy's blog already.
It was definitely a test in how we all work together.
Somehow we also evaded the predicted storm for the ride home . . .
This was the view just before docking at Tsawwassen terminal Saturday evening.
Once again I am thankful for these unique opportunities to
see and experience more than I ever could have imagined.

I was just about to close the computer, when your post popped up. What a lovely note on which to leave for the day. It sounds like you had a grand time here, and I'm sorry I missed you! I had to smile to see my office building on Government Street in one of your frames. It's a good thing you left on Saturday, as yesterday's storms had all the ferries cancelled, and today they are dealing with the backlog.

That's quite a huge TTS store. The one here is much smaller but has all the delights anyone could handle in one go.

I missed the picture I was looking for on your shop stroll.

Roger's is the name of the establishment (cough).

Roger's Chocolates as opposed to Roger's Wireless, I'm supposing?
Yes, we walked through those doors as well as Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory ... they were almost side by side. One of them offered samples. =)

Gorgeous photos of our city. And I obviously was NOT posing for that photo. Oh my. But I put one up on my blog of a group photo. It was so much fun to meet you all.
