Christmas Prayer

I was reading Bev's Bread for the Journey on the MGCC blog a few days ago and it got me asking myself how I make room for Jesus when I prepare for Christmas.
When I think about the biblical Mary and Martha, I'm quick to admit that I'm a Martha . . .
busy with so many things and leaving out what is really important.
My house is prepared . . .

The table is set . . .
and I ask myself . . . how do I make room for Jesus?
Will He be the guest of honor at my table?
Because if He is not, then what is this really all about?

While my thoughts gathered on this question, another thought came from  my daughter
feeling the significance of leaving everything behind to go and serve the poor.
I was reminded of the words to an old Christmas hymn . . .

Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem’s home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Heaven’s arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.

O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Thou camest, O Lord, with the living Word,
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary,

O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

When the heav’ns shall ring, and her choirs shall sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying “Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee.”

My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

You are a Martha but you are a Mary too... and maybe it is right that we have a bit of both in us...otherwise who would get the house all ready?
I can imagine that this year will hold a lot of significance. Wishing you all the joy that Christ came to give us.
