I love this time of year when we get to see our grandchildren go on stage to sing about the story that never gets old. When I was a child we did our program on Christmas Eve. There were poems and songs and candy bags given out. It was a very special night.
This photo is a group shot of not just one class, but all the children who came together for the Christmas service in our little church in Montevideo. Are you looking for me? I am the dark haired one closest to the lady teacher.
This past spring, while signing books in Ontario, I met two sisters, Esther and Sigrid, who happened to come from this same church way back when. It was a very fluke discovery. I have not figured out if they are on this photo, but I'm hoping that if they are, I will soon find out.

Oh how I enjoy these old black and white photos. So much history in one photo. You are so cute!
From why I can see of your small face on my small phone, it looks like Lacey standing there!
I love this - you are making me want to pull out some vintage pictures of when I was that age!
Most special...to have these old photos to look back on!
I'm loving these old photos Anneliese.
Sigrid could be the one in the middle of the picture peeking out from behind the small boy in suspenders, and our brother Peter could possibly be the bigger boy in suspenders. I don't seem to be in this picture. What fun - I don't think we have any pictures from that time. Esther
Yes I am the girl peeking out from behind the little boy with suspenders and my brother is the other boy with suspenders. Just want to share another family connection with you - I am friends with Tina Runge who's sister Erna is married to your Uncle Hartmuth Friesen, who I understand is your mothers brother. They also live in Virgil. What a small world. Thanks for the picture. Merry Christmas - Sigrid Wiens
Sigrid and Esther, what a small world indeed! I have no idea what prompted me to ask where you are from when I saw you at that signing. This photo was taken 50 years ago and even though I did not remember you it was unusual to find out that we had this small church connection so long ago. I was disappointed later that I had not taken your email addresses because I wanted to share this photo with you. Thank you for your comments! I wonder where you were, Esther?
There is a possibility, but we cant be too sure, that Esther could be the little blond child in the front row - looking at her passport pictures from that time, she had very short blond hair and the facial features resemble her children. Sigrid
I just noticed for the first time . . . as I've studied the photo more... that we are holding our bags of candy. My sister (born in 1961)is standing in front of the lady teacher and my brother is in front on the very left kind of behind the one who may be Esther. We did not get a lot of photos done at that time, so it's interesting that she may not recognize herself.
