Giving Thanks

A gift I got for Mother's Day from Kari (and Ben) included a beautiful journal with a card that made me cry. How thankful I am for a daughter-in-law who thinks to gift me with what she calls a "gratitude journal." In her words, "a place where you can write down one or two things you're thankful for every day." She says, "I'm going to start one too. That way we can look and see how God has blessed . . ."

I decided to begin that day, May 11. I keep it on the side table beside the chair I sit in every day at some point and it reminds me to give thanks. My goal, like others have done, is to have 1000 reasons to give thanks, by Mother's Day next year.

This gift is timely, as I've been reminded so much in other personal reading of the importance of developing a thankful attitude. During a time when entitlement drives many an attitude, focusing on being thankful helps us when we want to criticize, complain or feel sorry for ourselves. In the end, it's good to realize that criticizing or complaining would not have helped anyways, while in being thankful we acknowledge that God is sovereign and able to help us and grow us in character, while we wait on Him.  Thanksgiving opens the door to behold Him.

Psalm 100:4
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving . . .

So very true! Reminds me of a one of the songs from a "Psalty" children's musicals. "are you grumblely hateful or humbly grateful...what's your attitude?" Thankfulness certainly helps when the "glitches" in life happen! :-)

Such a great thing to do! I'm into my third year of doing this and can honestly say that it's made a huge difference in my outlook on life in general but especially during the tough times!
