Packing

Joe Mathieu illustration

When we began to plan our trip, we assumed it would fit in after one family moving -
and then barely in between another family's visit and yet another having a baby.
Adding work related schedules, it did not look too promising . . .
then we decided there may never be a good time and booked anyways!
Now we are heading to the airport one week before our kids leave for Indonesia.
And do you know what?
I'm good with it . . .
maybe it's a blessing in disguise just to see our lives continue
and not to focus on the goodbye . . .
as I have for far too long now.

So I've worked at making the best of our times together these past weeks . . .
and now I'm packing with a skip in my being.
Dresses and skirts for dinners
linen and cotton pants
white, khaki and jean walking shorts
t-shirts and pretty tops
dress shoes and walking shoes
accessories to tie things together
his suit
his other clothes
new passports
They say that where we are going
we'll fall in love all over again.
This is a good time.

You will just love your trip Anneliese. There's something wonderful about walking on a ship's deck at night with the moon above you, the gentle breezes around you and your love beside you. Not to mention the exciting places you will see. I'm so happy that you can do this. And I'm thankful that you are doing it with a heart at peace.

I'm so happy there is a skip in your being. You have worked through so much in the last year. I love how God has worked out the details so far and will continue to do his will in the willingness of your family.

A trip, how wonderful.
I know the feeling of continuing on with our own lives. We are at that point too. It is hard. I have been trying to get 'us' away for a few years now, but one thing or another seems prevent it. Perhaps just booking it like you did is the answer.
I am so happy to hear that you are doing it with a spring in your step and with your outfits all planned to coordinate making your travel time easier. Now you are on your journey and making memories too.
Have a good time. It will be great to see some pictures when you return. I gather you are going to Europe...exactly where we would like to go too.

God always brings a rainbow. This week one evening we were out walking, enjoying the sunset and Scot pointed out a faint rainbow in the sky. I am so thankful that in the midst of all things God has given you something to look forward to, and more so that you are feeling good about it all. Praying for safe travels for you and I so enjoyed your wardrobe collage. Your H will find you most adorable!

I have finally found time to catch up on your blog posts, and I must admit, I have thoroughly enjoyed every post. Your heart thoughts come through each word, and yet you share words and pictures that almost make one feel like they too, are on the trip with you. Isn't it just like God, to set up the circumstances of your trip, at an unlikely time, and then using it to bless you both in such a special way! The pictures are outstanding, and it certainly made me want to visit that part of the world. You both look great! Thanks for the privilege of being a part of it, and for making time spent together as husband and wife seem so special.

Oh my goodness, Anneliese! I just saw your blog today, and I am packing today, for nearly the same trip! We are cruising from Athens to Venice! Any packing tips for this rookie to Europe and cruising?

Lorrie, I am so happy for you! You will have so much fun! I think the weather will still be quite warm, so it is easy to pack for that. I found that for fourteen days, seven pair of shorts, capris or skirts for daytime was about the right amount. You will need more tops since it can be humid. Make sure you have comfortable walking shoes. Lots of walking. Then there are the evenings and you usually change into nice pants or a dress. I like having a few cardigans along in case of air conditioning or a cooler day.
Enjoy!!! Venice is the best!
