I'm going back to the summer with these photos, but just wanted to share a very simple decorating tip. In looking at our family room I wondered how I could bring in a little spark . . . a tad more of a color that was not part of the original always autumn color scheme.
So, in the room we have the couches, a coffee table, the fireplace, a corner built in cabinet, a free standing black cabinet and a fireplace. What I did is put something blueish in each of these spots. I changed up the cushions to bring some of that blue in, got a bowl out of storage, (storing things for kids) and basically used a journal, some books, cards and a plaque I got for my birthday. A new potted plant with a hint of blue in the leaves also helped.

This just brought in a bit of the feeling I was looking for, without doing anything big. The idea is that no matter what you have to work with, a few matching items in hiding can be moved about and pull a room together to give it a new look.  Use any color you tend to gravitate toward and you will find you have hung on to some of those things. Last week I changed up our summer blanket into a throw across the duvet on the bed, moved about cushions, wall prints and framed photos from one room to another and the rooms have a new look. Nothing spectacular, just keeping things fresh.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue . . .
it works.

I love this time of year when we can just switch up a few things to reflect the seasons outside. Your little touches are so pretty. That tea cup is so beautiful. I'll have to look underneath it next time to see what the name is.

Things are being switched up here, too. It's fun to play with items I already own. The blue bowl is lovely.

What good ideas. There will now be bold colour accents popping up among my earthy tones here. I often think I should do something about the palette but hadn't quite settled on what: this is it. Thank you.

This is exactly what I was talking about the other day....now if only I knew what to change up! :-)

Such pretty and blueteeful accents! I love this idea! My oh my I could use some changes around this old farm house too. I especially love the paisley pillow and the tea cup. Just pulled out my pumpkin accents the other day and that helps to liven up the place a bit. You've encouraged me to rethink my decor.

Your "something blueish" sure looks good and does add some pretty touches. I like that look, and must admit the idea is inspiring to me. Thanks for it!

This was all the inspiration I needed today as I had just looked around the house this morning and noted that it was looking "tired"! Thanks for sharing what a difference a few small changes can make.

Great idea! I love blue and think it goes so well with most any color scheme. It will always have a place in my home. :-) I love your plaque with the bird and verse.
