Of Fall Beauty and Flooding

I was so happy to see I didn't totally miss out on the autumn beauty

and the chance to walk in crunchy leaves.

Natalie, Landon, Koen and Evy stayed over for a few days.

Between baking large cinnamon buns and playing board games,
we managed to fit in a wiener roast
before the rains came again.
Tehya also came for dinner one night and
immediately ran barefoot out on the street
when she saw the rainbow.
These past few days it's been raining so much -
this is the scene we woke up to this morning.
We are on a hill, overlooking the Sumas Prairie -
which looks like a lake right now.
It would be beautiful if it weren't so devastating.
Currently all four highways coming to Vancouver are closed -
cutting us off from the rest of our country.
Right at our doorstep, the highway and all side roads
are closed to the next town.
Many farmers have to evacuate and
hope their livestock gets rescued.
Other farmers have no way of getting their milk shipped
and no way of getting feed for their animals.
As we listen to the sound of helicopters overhead,
we wait and watch
as this once in a lifetime experience unfolds before our eyes.
And I've been thinking of that rainbow.
The promise.

So sorry for the devastation for all who are under water right now. Praying the waters will subside and the rivers will be contained and for some miraculous solutions. Good to be on higher ground...

This is such a sad time for so many people. My heart hurts for them.

Oh my, I'm glad you are 'high and dry' in your home. I didn't realize you had flooding, although I should have when I heard northern Washington was flooded. Stay safe.

Tears come to my eyes. These are people's livelihoods. Their prized present and future. Prayers that God will act and their faith will grow stronger.

Thank you, Sheila!

Annalise - I have been following the MGCC blog for more than 10 years, use the cookbooks regularly, and so naturally the MGCC feel like dear friends. Living in the Red and the Assiniboine flood plain, we are acutely aware of the damage water causes, and we are heartsick for those suffering so much with homes, farm building, machinery, and especially livestock and poultry inundated and/or lost! I have a sinking feeling that MGCC families are affected and want them to know that we hold them close in prayer. Truly, if there is anything that can be done by those of us from afar - please let us know. Looking to that Rainbow of Hope! rw

Thank you, RW! I will share your comment with the MGCC, if you do not mind. We have one dairy farmer and two poultry farmers in our group and these are difficult days, for sure. However, the help they offer each other and the support and prayers of so many have been very encouraging. Like I said to one who was happy to get feed for their chickens this week, one day at a time. A verse that encouraged me this week, "by faith, we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." Psalm 27

Please share our comments and if it is appropriate at this time, please offer this Joshua 1:9 verse that we have found helpful throughout these past twenty-one months!

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Amen!

Amazing how the valley looks from your window...before and after the flood! It's hard to see the big picture when you are 'on the flood plain'. I appreciate the encouraging words of your readers. It is so good to know that we are not alone when we face difficult times...others are there to support, offer help and encourage.
